A Pirate’s Message
By: Brian Lin

My name is Flamengo Jake Ravenclaw. And if you are reading this message, it means I am already dead. I’m writing this because I have hidden my treasure on Diamond Island and if you are lucky, you can follow my map and instructions and maybe good fortune will befall on you, but be careful this journey won’t be an easy one. First let me tell you about myself so that my legacy lives on.
Now I am going to tell about myself. My name is Flamengo Jake Ravenclaw. I am mean and scary. Nobody can fight me because I’m too strong. My father, Rake de Santos Ravenclaw, is the captain of the pirate crew called Flamengo. I think this is how I got my name.
Diamond Island is located on the north side of Germany. Now I’ll tell you the latitude and longitude location. 54.5167° N, 8.6369° E. The island is rare, but if you are reading this, it means the island is waiting for you to go there and dig out the treasure. However, this search for the treasure is not only easy, it is difficult and hard. It lies between your life… Dead or Alive.
There are many legends about Diamond Island and let me tell you, they are true. First of all in the forest, there is a old woman. She is nice and kind. She asked me to help her get a cup of water, well, that time I was a kind young kid. I did everything she said. After a day, she gave me a basket of eggs. The old woman told me to throw them behind my shoulders on my way home. I did what she told me. And I realized that the talking eggs were diamonds inside. I got more eggs with diamond inside because the woman said so.
If you are brave enough to try and find my buried treasure you will not be disappointed. My treasure is funny, but be sure not to laugh at anything you see. If you disobeyed my conditions, you will regret what you find after all. My treasure is from the famous science lab of Germany. It was invented by Karl Benz. The German inventor. After I become older, I became more and more evil. I tried to steal the eggs, and of course, they chased me. On my ship, I putted the eggs in a golden treasure box. And I arrived at a island that did not exists on the map. I buried the treasure. No one knows about it. This message is left for you… the trail is is followed by my treasure instructions. The soldiers who were chasing me was furious. They killed me… good luck…

You can follow my map trail and read my map instructions, but be careful about the measurements. 1 centimeter wrong, it would not leads to the treasure. Also, a reminder, to find my treasure, you must have patience.
Good luck and watch out for the river that is rushing water out when you stop by the east bay of Diamond Island.

Sincerely,
Flamengo Jake Ravenclaw

This is my Pirate’s Message 🙂 thanks!

The Life Of the Ballgame
By: Brian Lin

One day, at Darren’s house, Jerry, Morgan, and Darren and I were all busy testing Jerry’s new invention, The Time Machine. Then, an Aztec Tenochtitlan picture accidently touched the time machine.
“AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!” We all shouted.
I saw a few branches in front of my face. It took a few seconds to realize that we are in a tree.
“Where are we?” Darren asked.
“Tenochtitlan” Morgan Shouted.
“What?” said Jerry.
“Tenochtitlan is the Capital of the ancient Aztecs!” I said.
“What a beautiful place!” Said Darren.
“Let’s get out of here.” Said Jerry
When we climbed down from the tree, we heard someone yelling, “Capture them!” We turned and looked.
“An Eagle Warrior!”
We stood still, so does the eagle warrior.
“What’s wrong with the wearing of the eagle warrior! murmured Jerry. “We would be bloody if we touched the clothes that is made out of sharp stones.
“And the feathers everywhere!” whispered Darren.
“Look at his shoe! its made out of woods” I said.
“I think we better start running.” said Morgan
We ran, and the Eagle Warrior shot spears and arrows but he missed. Morgan tripped and fell down to the ground. The Aztec warrior caught Morgan and tied him up with a rope, turned around, and started walking back.
“What should we do?” Darren asked.
“I think we should go after the Aztecs and save Morgan,” said Jerry. “Or trade Morgan back with something.”
“What thing should we trade for?” I asked, “I have nothing interesting for the Aztec people, and I left my backpack downstairs!”
“Maybe we should look for something” Jerry suggested.
“What should we look for?”
“Gold or diamonds?”
“It will take forever for you to find golds or stuff like that,” Darren replied. “And you know, Aztec people are not interested in things like that.”
“Or maybe just say where we came from and half the chance, they would give Morgan back.” I suggested.
We gathered our ideas together and chose the one that we think it would work. “The Aztec Ballgame.”
We arrived at the ballgame court and it was 200 feet long and 30 feet wide at its center section. It is shaped like an capital “I.” This shape represented the universe.
Suddenly, a six-inch round rubber ball (which symbolized the sun) went flying with rocket speed towards us. It hit Jerry in the stomach. Hard.
“Ouch!” Jerry shouted, “Who did that?”
The Aztec ballplayers came rushing towards us. Darren shivered.
“Let’s play the ballgame,” said Jerry. “If we win, give Morgan back to us, if we lose, then you can capture us.”
“Who is Morgan?” The Aztec ballplayers asked.
“Our friend, who you guys just captured a few hours ago.”
“Alright, Let’s start the game!” they said.
“Wait.” Said Darren, “I don’t even know what the rules are and how to play.”
“Ok, now this is what you wear. A headdress, a hacha, a yoke to protect your waist, these wooden shoes, palma, manopla, yuguito. And here are the rules. You only can use your waist to hit the ball through the hoop that is large enough to accommodate the six-inch rubber ball. No hands, no feet or stuff like that, only your waist,” explained one of the Aztecs.
We wore the uniforms. The game had now begun. It was 3 on 3. The score kept tied until the jaguars got a point. The score was 1-0. Just one time, just one time, Darren shoot the ball into the hoop. The score was 2-1.
“Yeah!” Jerry and I yelled at the same time.
Five more minutes were left, the score was 9-7. I’m glad that we practiced the Aztec Ballgame at recess.
Jerry and I scored 2 more lucky goals to make the score tie. Finally! Darren scored the final goal as he hit the ball through the hoop with his waist.
“Now, give us back Morgan!” I yelled.
Two Aztec Warriors walked with Morgan to the ballcourt. “You’re free now,” they said.
We ran back to the forest and went up to the tree that we came from and put a picture of Taipei on top of the time machine. The wind blowed so hard. I opened my eyes and looked around. We were on the high speed rail, heading for Kaohsiung.
“What a day! We shouted together. “I bet we are going to be the role model of our Aztec project.
The End

My Audio Essay

This is My Audio Essay. This story is about my sister.

Having a Sister is Very Lucky

By: Brian Lin

Many people don’t know what it feels like having a sister. Have you ever wanted to know how it feels like having a sister?

I will tell you how it feels. It feels lucky. In fact, I feel like the luckiest person in the world. Many people want to have a sister when it is convenient. But they don’t truly care about having or not having a sister. Many people think that having a sister is very annoying. But have they ever wondered how does it feel not having a sister?

My sister helps me with my homework. My sister chats with me when I am bored. My sister plays with me when I am sad. For example, one Friday night, I was crazy with my homework. “Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow,” I thought.

The next day we are going for a vacation, and I had plenty of homework to be done. We will be back on Sunday night. And now, I was only starting my writing homework. I couldn’t focus, think of the other homework, I just couldn’t focus. Just then, my sister came in my room.

“Can you give me some ideas?” I asked hopefully.

“Sure.” she replied.

After she said that sentence, my feelings immediately begin to change. I felt like the wind, zooming faster and faster. Like I was writing my homework faster and faster, until I couldn’t write faster anymore. And when that happened, I was already done with my homework.

Another example of how much I enjoy having a sister is when one day during summer vacation, I was finally done with my homework, reading, Chinese, science, posters, reading log. I was tired. But tired doesn’t mean that you have to sleep or relax. Tired also means that I was tired of doing my homework. I wanted to do something else. I just couldn’t think of something to do. Television? Boring. Reading? Boring. Drawing? Boring. Playing? Yes! I went to find my sister. Living room? No. Dining room? No. Sleeping? I found her! I shouldn’t wake her up when she was sleeping. But I had nothing to do. So I just waited. My sister woke up 30 minutes later. We played a game called tic tac toe.

“YAY! I won! YAY! I won! YAY! I won!”

She won every time. But at least I had someone who would play with me. And I was not bored or tired anymore.

The last example is, one sunny day on Monday, It was so hot that our family are going out for a swim. Everyone was happy about that. But when we went there my mom notice that the swimming pool is closed. We all went home sadly. We had nothing to do. My mom was sleeping. My dad was watering his plants. My sister and I had nothing to do. So we decided to play hide and seek. My sister always finds me in one minute. But it takes me more than five minutes to find her. After that, we played truth or dare.

“Paper-Scissor-Stone!” And the next thing I knew, I lost. I am bad at every game. Actually, I am not really so bad. But if my sister plays with me, I can be very bad. She can read my mind. She knows what I am going to do next. She asks me a lot of questions, or dare me to do a lot of things.

I never get to ask her any questions or dare her to do anything because I always lose while playing Paper-Scissor-Stone in Truth or Dare. For example, “I dare you to do a push-up 10 times,” or “ How many cookies did you eat today?” And she always goes and finds out the truth. And if I lie, she punishes me by hitting my hand two times.

Having a sister and not having a sister is a big difference. You should make a choice. An important choice. Like the most important choice in your life. Think of what you can do with a sister and without a sister. Having or not having a sister? If you want to know the answer to this, read on!

I have a sister. A sister who cares about me. I realize that when my sister is not with me, I feel lonely. Nobody can play with me, nobody can chat with me, nobody can help me. But I have a sister. She is the one who plays with me. She is the one who chats with me. She is the one who helps me. And she is the one who has changed my life.

The First Day of Chinese Class

The First Day of Chinese Class

By: Brian Lin

“Chinese class time! Put your Writing materials away!” Said Ms.Callahan.

Morgan and I quickly put our writing materials away and went to the bathroom. We looked like we could read each others mind, because we are too nervous about the first day of Chinese class. We have change a Chinese teacher during Winter break.

“Will the Chinese teacher gives us many homework?” I asked.

“I hope not, because we already have many homework for winter break, and I don’t like it” Morgan said nervously.

We walked back to the classroom to get prepared. Ms. Pon took us to the Chinese classroom.

“Hi class!” Said Ms.Lin when we walked into the Chinese classroom.

“Hello!” We said back.

In the first day of Chinese, we learned to remember each other which does not make sense, because we already know each other except the teacher. And the homework for that day is to make a poster which was a project for me to introduce yourself.

“Class is over” Said Ms.Lin.

“YAY!” Shouted the class.

Then Ms.Pon came and pick us up. But then, more and more homework each day, more and more test each week, more and more projects to do each month, and more and more Chinese book to read every week. I barely don’t have time to sleep. Harder work each day, I can’t imagine the homework for Summer vacation.

The Water Slide Game

The Water Slide Game

By: Brian Lin

My cousin and I ran to the top of the waterslide staircase of Pacific Island Club in Guam. It seems like it is impossible to climb to the top of the staircase to play the waterslide game.

“We made it!” shouted my cousin looking back for me.

I was still at the middle of the stairs.

“Hurry!” shouted my cousin.

“Okay.” I said.

Finally, I made it to the top of the staircase.

“Where is the water slide?” we both said at the same time, looking around for the water slide.

“I found it!” I shouted.

“Who will go first?” asked my cousin.

“You will go first.” I said.

“Okay.”

So my cousin sat on the slide and I pushed him away as hard as I could.

“Good-bye!” I shouted.

He screamed all his way down and I was laughing so hard at the top. I waited for my turn, I was not sure if I was going to scream too, because my cousin is older than me. So I cover my mouth and pushed myself away.

“Ahhhhhhh!” I screamed in my mind.

It was faster than a roller coaster. The wind blew my hands off my mouth.

Then, “SPLASH!!” I went down to the swimming pool and I raced with my cousin to my mom and dad. I won the race.

My Christmas Break

0

This Christmas break, I go to Taichung, it was very fun, and I love the hotel that I lived. And we go on the high speed rail. I love high speed rail very much, because I think it is very cool and nice and comfortable. And I went to that hotel more than 20 times!!!

I played hide and seek with my sister in the hallway. And the cleaning lady always say what are you doing here? So my sister always know where am I. And that is a great hotel.
