One problem in KAS is, the students of KAS are using computers in negative ways by; relying too much on them, using time to play games, and not participating in outside activities. How can we resolve this problem? We should stop using computers now for education, we should start with our handwriting for our future!

Students who is entering into middle school is using their computer for education, but is it really helping them? Middle School Students are relying too much on computers, and when you focus on computer all day, it can hurt your body, and you won’t be able to learn! If you use computer to type projects and summatives, what about your future? According to Jawad Khan from byte-notes: “Young generation is now spending more time on the social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, etc or texting their friends all night through smartphones.” We are spending times using social media websites to hangout with friends, this might be educating, but it can also be dangerous when you are online all day.

Also, students are using computers for negative purposes, school teachers and principals thinks that computers are for education only, but some students might not, they do not have the determination to control themselves from playing games. According to Jawad Khan from byte-notes: “Many people use computers without positive purpose. They play games and chat for a long period of time. It causes wastage of time and energy. “ Students are wasting time on chatting and gaming, first, they don’t help to educate, second, they destroys our lives in the future.

Now, students aren’t participating in sports and any afterschool activities, and even though they joined activities, they talk about games they played, and not following directions and put any effort in it. Kenze 94 from wordpress: “The game requires the player to sweat, bleed, fight, and move alongside with reality. Both activities that are polar opposites, yet ironically, have the same purpose: to entertain us people.” Game makes us more and more interesting, you won’t stop, it entertained you so much, games even makes us act like characters in it.

The easiest way that we can solve this problem is by controlling yourself, also, we can just use handwriting instead of typing, this can help us not play games, interact with friends more, participate more in sports, and making our future the best.

We went to the Kenting Aquarium at May to sleepover and learn more things about the ocean and the aquarium.

Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell was based on a true story about a girl named Karana who survives on an island for 18 years. Karana from Island of the Blue Dolphins knows how to be resourceful.

My definition of resourceful is to know what to do or where to get help in any situations. By knowing this, we can see that Karana shows resourcefulness by hiding from the Aleuts when they came, climbing the cliff when the tsunami came, even knowing her choice about killing Rontu or not when he was hurt by Karana herself. Another definition for resourceful of mine is brave. Karana needs to show bravery about hiding from the Aleuts, climbing the cliff, and making the weapons when it was a law the no woman can make weapons in her village.

I think Karana grows up a lot by knowing what her choice is. Before, Karana has to decide with her father, her sister Ulape, or maybe Ramo. But now Karana can choose wisely, knowing how to decide by estimating the time. For example, when the Tsunami came and if Karana went back to pack her things, Karana might be washed away by the tsunami! Karana is also knowing what is her choice of about trusting Tutok or not. Anyways, Kanana shows confidence by doing these things.

However, Karana had faced many problems in many situations in the island. But Karana solved them all by showing resourcefulness, confidence, and bravery. For example, when the tsunami came, Karana shows resourcefulness by knowing what to do like climbing the cliff. By climbing the cliff, Karana needs confidence to climb it. Another example is when Karana saves Rontu, who was hurted by Karana herself. Karana saves Rontu by showing confidence and bravery to carry him home instead for killing him. Then, Karana shows resourcefulness by knowing what to do to heal Rontu.

Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell is a survival, story; I like survival stories because it makes the story move and more interesting. I wish I would read more stories by Scott O’ Dell.

In class, we read an AWESOME book called, “Island of the Blue Dolphins.” it was a great book. Especially, it is a survival story. This is the book cover. (Below) Enjoy reading!

Hatchet Vs. Cast Away

When I compare the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen and the movie Cast Away, I find that there are many differences and similarities. Chuck, from Cast Away is a man that survived on a tropical island for 4 years, and Brian, from Hatchet is a thirteen year old boy that survived alone at the Canadian wilderness for 2 months. Even though they are different stories the characters have similar traits. Both characters are from the city and had no wisdom about surviving in nature. Both characters explore a lot. Last, both characters have a strong tie to family.

In both the movie and the book, both characters are very intelligent. They both have knowledge, however, they both start without having wisdom of what it means to survive on your own in nature, both of them don’t have experience of surviving, ALONE. But after they had perseverance, Brian from Hatchet forgives his mother by thinking what she had done for him all these years. After he forgives his mother, his brain feels more free and wanted to survive and see his parents again. Chuck from Cast Away is a very intelligent man with knowledge but no wisdom. After Chuck has perseverance, he is starting to have wisdom and never gives up.

However, both Brian from Hatchet and Chuck from Cast Away both have something that gives them confidence. Brian first was mad at his mother to cause the divorce, and if his mom didn’t kiss the blond man, he wouldn’t be here. Because Brian from the book Hatchet, was on his way visiting his father on his way visiting his father on summer vacation. But he wouldn’t have to visit his father if his parents were living together! As the same thing happened to Chuck from Cast Away, he thinks of Kelly, his fiancée, and knows she is waiting for him. Kelly gave Chuck confidence; Chuck knew he had to keep breathing.

From the book Hatchet written by Gary Paulsen, and the movie Cast Away, starring by Tom Hanks, the both main characters from the book and movie wanted to die at first. Have you ever wanted to die? Brian from the book Hatchet, had perseverance after he missed the plane that had flown by. He had shown perseverance by learning from his mistakes every time. Chuck from the movie Cast Away had perseverance after he missed a ship. He knew that he had hope, he tries to learn from his mistakes when he tried to make fire as same as Brian from Hatchet.

After both characters Brian from Hatchet, and Chuck from the movie Cast Away had wisdom, they are still very different. One is a man that survived in a tropical island for 4 years. One is a kid that survived in the Canadian wilderness for 2 months. They both tried to explore, but in a different ways. Brian from Hatchet explored how to eat things and capture things, Chuck from Cast Away also explored. They’re heart always have wisdom, family, and exploration.
