Sufficient Sleep

Sleeping is an important part of living, it gives us the energy that we need to last throughout the day, and also improves our overall well being. Every night, a high school student should get at least 8 hours of sleep; however, most high schoolers only get at most, or fewer than 6 hours of sleep due to procrastination, lots of work to do, or even just not being able to sleep. Due to insufficient sleep, it could lead to poor mental health which would then affect not only their academics, but also their social life.

One way to get enough sleep is not procrastinating and prioritizing the more important goals to do first, such as school work. So, instead of watching the television right after coming home from school, finishing your assignments that are due the next day is a better idea. A way that your own time can be managed is creating a schedule to plan out your entire day. This could make you feel more productive, reduce stress levels, and could also save time. When doing work, it is important to avoid distractions. For example, when your phone receives a notification, you would probably immediately check the notification, and it would then lead to you unintentionally scrolling through Instagram. Therefore, turning on ‘Do Not Disturb’ on your phone is a good way to keep you focused on your task, similar to how you would not want your notifications to wake you up when you are asleep.

Other than getting inadequate sleep, you should also not be getting too much sleep, which is about over 11 hours. This could increase the risk of diabetes, strokes, and even death. Getting excessive sleep could be caused by not getting enough sleep the night before, this could also lead to an irregular sleep schedule, such as sleeping during the day and waking up at night. A way to fix an irregular sleep schedule is to make sure not to take naps, and to stay active during the day.

Getting sufficient sleep is about as important as eating, or even breathing. It makes us healthier mentally and physically, improving our mood, and also helps us think clearer. Making sure that you are getting enough sleep by sleeping at least 8 hours before when you should wake up, not procrastinating or being distracted when you are supposed to do your work, and being active.

It’s was a great topic to talk about. There are so many people who can’t sleep during nights. My initial reaction was wow cause I also don’t get enough sleep sometime during school days, so this topic would fit me a lot. From your paragraph, I can see the solution that you gave for getting enough sleep are really helpful. In addition, your paragraph doesn’t only talk about getting enough sleep, you also talk about getting too much sleeping hours. I also see what’s the best time for getting enough sleep.

    Hello Alicia,
A very helpful point of the importance of sleep. Because this topic is really connected to our real-life since sufficient sleep is needed when we don’t have enough time to have a deep rest. The tips of having sufficient sleep have inspired me and I will like to try it someday. But are there any more ways that can make a “Good sleep”? I was wondering that because sometimes I will wake up in the middle of the night.
