Five weeks left! I cannot believe that the end of the school year is almost upon us. I am beyond grateful for the support from the students and their parents. Thank you for all that you do for the students. It truly helps make the year very successful. As always, please email me with any comments, questions, concerns, or praises.

Students finished up their Valiant Ventures projects a few weeks ago. They are now working on a presentation to describe and tell all about their learning. After watching many videos this past week and taking notes on presentations, the students seem to have a good idea of what they need to do for these presentations. I am hoping we will be ready to present in a few weeks.

Students need to read every day for a minimum of 30 minutes including the weekends. They should be logging their minutes at Reading Rewards. In order to become better readers, they need to read often.

7th

Seventh graders finished up a unit on perfect societies. We read the novel The Giver, and several short stories about utopia/dystopia. Students then had a debate about perfect societies. For their final project, students created their own societies  and presented them to the class. Students’ next project will be a research project on an environmental issue. They will create a PSA (Public Service Announcement) to bring awareness for their environmental issue as well as what can be done to help.

8th

Eighth graders finished a unit on conflict and resolution. We read the novel The Outsiders, as well as a short story on conflict. Students had a debate on conflict and violence. For their final project, students created a contingency plan on how to remain peaceful with family, friends, school, and internet/social media and presented it to the class. Students’ next project will be a research project on a social issue. They will create an infographic to bring awareness for their social issue.
