Ms. Marcum’s Mind

Insight to my mind. A little scary, huh?!? I will begin where all beginnings began. I was born. Such a profound statement. Growing up I was such a chatterbox. I think I enjoyed hearing myself speak. Not much has changed on that one. As a child, there were two options of where I might be found: outside enjoying nature or my room with my nose stuck in a book. That hasn’t changed much either.

I graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. I worked in the public school system for a few years before completing my Master’s. I graduated from Walden University with a Master’s degree in Literacy and Learning for Secondary Education. I continued working while gaining my Master’s degree. May 2015,  I completed a certificate in COETAIL.  Working full time and attempting to take a course is not an easy feat. I am also studying Chinese. It is a slow, slow, slow process. Did I mention how slow progress is? No? Well it’s very slow. Some would even say snail like pace. Don’t even get me started on my “Learning Bucket List.” It is quite long!

These days I spend my free time, what little I have now that I have a family and a daughter, cooking, listening to music, reading, hiking, biking, swimming, and my all time favorite…going to the beach. I am a terrible dancer. Yet, I cannot pass up dancing to a great song and often times there is singing involved too. The singing is worse than the dancing. Yikes!

Confession time. My name is Ms. Marcum, and I am addicted to YouTube, blog reading, Pinterest, and possibly adding Twitter to the list as well. I cannot accurately describe how many hours of my life is consumed in these areas. In all fairness, it is entertaining and educational. Although, not always both at the same time.

I loved school! Still do. If professional student was a logistical choice, I would have chosen it. Sadly, it doesn’t pay the bills. Instead, I decided to view life as my learning institution and hopefully teach others to love learning as much as I do. I love stories and look for them in all aspects of world around me.
