Chem Inventory Project Update – Day 4 (Final)

After weeks of no progress due to COVID hurdles… We’re finally done with our Chem inventory CAS project!!!

For the last day, we sorted out the acids and bases that need to be transferred from their original plastic soft bottles to shiny new glass bottles to prevent corrosion. This drastically reduces the possibility that someone would melt their hands off if they are not properly handled. Since we found out that the acids and bases section was correctly sorted and labeled beforehand, we didn’t touch the organization of these chemicals.

Overall I believe that this CAS project has thoroughly enhanced my skills on operating Google Sheets as well as cooperating with other students. I have enjoyed working with two of my best friends from the very first day, since we got to meet together during the times when we had to engage in online learning due to rising COVID cases. This CAS project did indeed serve as a relief from this stressful time and improve on our collaboration skills that were endangered due to COVID. As globalization continues, it is essential for us to collaborate closely with our peers in order to achieve the best results in our projects, and I firmly believe that this CAS project through collaboration has allowed me to achieve just that. Good collaboration skills allow us to develop friendships, encourage problem-solving, and complete our projects in a more effective way. However, that pandemic still had a substantial impact on our project, as we couldn’t complete the project before summer vacation ends due to vaccine injection and PCR test hurdles involving our supervisor. We overcame it by utilizing after-school hours to complete it once and for all. In addition, I got my hands on a brand new function called data validation that allows me to choose from the preset data values without the need to type them in full. This is a very useful function, and I have already implemented that function into my college application tracking sheet to the greatest extent. I do certainly feel that I have mastered Google Sheets by way of completing this CAS project.

I have loved completing this project with my best friends and I hope that I can complete more CAS projects with my friends in the future in light of loosening COVID restrictions. I want to thank Graciana, Mindy, as well as my supervisor Mr. Roth for making this journey memorable.
