Eric Chen’s CAS Journey – Late Feb. 2021 Edition

So, let’s be honest. I nearly ran out of ideas for a CAS experience lately, but a brand new idea just popped into my mind while I was deep in my sleep…

So I have not been exercising a lot these days, and even though I’m the type of guy who doesn’t like to exercise a lot, I started to worry about my future as my weight has been swiftly increasing over the years without any workout. So, as part of my commitment to a healthier life and also as part of my long-term CAS experience, I have decided to start running around the school soccer field for 15 minutes every Monday, Thursday, and Friday during the long break. (I won’t be doing this during Tuesdays and Wednesdays since I’m already accustomed to watching little kids play sports at the field then.) I plan to continue this practice for a year and look for any substantial decrease in my weight, BMI, and body fat percentage every month throughout this 12-month period.

Before I talk further into my fitness program, here are all my weight-related measurements before the start of the program.

Friday, February 26 was the start date of my fitness program. I ran around the field for 15 minutes during my core class (Fridays are usually CAS Fridays so I’m fine; I also saw numerous classmates shooting basketballs around while working out), with the workout being tracked using my Apple Watch. Well, it all seemed that my fitness level was very poor after months without any high-intensity workouts.

Here’s how the workout went.

See that my heart rate once rose to an astonishingly high 189 BPM? I felt that I was going to pass out if I kept running then, so I decided to just walk for the remainder of the workout cycle. In addition, my legs sore really badly near the end of the workout. With that being said, I have subsequently decided to just walk around the soccer field for future workouts. Well, I just hope that my cardio capacity will eventually get better in the future…
