A Magical Journey in the World of Movies

In this unit, I watched two movies, Edward Scissorhands by the world-renowned director Tim Burton, as well as The Banker, a historical film that was among the first movies that were released on a brand new streaming platform Apple TV+. Even though these films were released 30 years apart from each other, there were some similarities and differences that set these films apart. I spent numerous hours watching these two movies to get a better understanding of the cinematic elements that were used in the films, as well as writing an extremely long compare and contrast essay to showcase my discoveries.

Watch the trailers of the two movies below! What similarities and differences do you see just by watching the trailers? Let me know in the comments below!

After completing this unit, I could proudly brand myself as an amateur movie analyzer. Jotting down notes while watching movies can be extremely difficult, especially when the story is rapidly changing. However, I believe that I have excelled in this scenario, partly contributed by my rapid typing speed as well as my good memory. This would later be proved beneficial to my compare and contrast essay, and that new skill made my essay look better than I expected! Even though I would love to include the essay here for you to take a look, I have decided not to do so due to the length of the essay. (Psst! It’s 4 pages long!) I do not wish to bore all of you by the 4-page-long essay, so instead, I’m just going to leave you with my short reflection for you all to enjoy.
