I have never really managed to work out on a consistent basis over the school year because of the heavy workload. Therefore, summer became the perfect opportunity to work out and become stronger and slimmer. Since we can’t travel to other countries due to the travel ban, this workout challenge also provided me another source of motivation and made me feel significantly less bored over the long holiday.

I didn’t want to set a deadline, because I wanted to continue working out as long as possible. However, I only managed to do it for two weeks LOL. I mean, still pretty impressive but I initially expected it to end after school starts 😂. I gave myself quite a lot of flexibility in terms of deciding what to do for the day, as I felt like my motivation would quickly be worn out if I force myself to comply to a strict schedule. For two weeks, I alternated between running laps (minimum of 3 laps of 400 meters), doing a full-body HIIT, playing basketball, or all three each day. Exercising consistently proved to benefit me in numerous ways. Although I always felt sore after working out, I was able to work more productively for the remainder of the day (for some reason 🤔) as well as maintain a healthier sleeping/eating schedule. Each following day, I also reflect on myself and compare my performances across the previous days to evaluate my improvement. Sometimes, by working out, I reflect on my time management, as it’s a primary reason why I struggle to workout during school days. For the two weeks that I worked out, I had the motivation going because I forced myself to workout in the early afternoon so I have plenty of time to pursue other tasks. I’m pretty sure if I spent the time I procrastinated to complete my 10 minutes HIIT workout for the past school year, I would still have sufficient time to fulfill my responsibilities as a student. These revelations all made me a more reflective person who is unafraid of facing her own insufficiencies. Last but not least, consistency is indeed very important, because it’s hard to get back into the schedule and keep the motivation running after skipping just a day. That’s why I gave up in the end 🤣. Regardless, I hope to resume my workout schedule by August before school starts, because that might be my last chance to focus entirely on exercising without having to worry about college apps.
