Inspired by my literature class’s peace crane activity at the beginning of the month, I was intrigued by the message behind peace cranes and wanted to do more with it. Therefore, I decided to join With A Thousand Cranes organization. It is a service project located in Canada that donates 1000 cranes made by people all over the country each year to people in need, such as disabled children, suicide survivors, etc. Their philosophy is to spark hope, connections, and belonging among both the receiver and the volunteer. Participants can work individually or in teams and make however many cranes they want and send it to the organization for donation. I started folding the paper cranes last month during the 228 Holiday. Combined with the paper cranes my friends and I finished folding over the last two CAS Fridays, they add up to a total of about 100 cranes so far. My plan is to fold at least 150 paper cranes and mail it to the organization sometime around April.

Aside from that, I have to say I really enjoyed the process. The class time given really provided me the opportunity to carry on with this project that has been on hold for so long due to all other school activities while having a nice chatty time with my friends and catch up on how each other has been doing lately. It was truly a precious and de-stressing period filled with laughter and some good music. I also learned to be more caring – not only to the people around me but to the world in general. May these little cranes of mine spark a little more joy and spread a little more positively in this world 🍀
