Corresponding to the beginning of the varsity volleyball season, I decided to do a CAS experience on sharpening my volleyball skills, specifically my overhand serving skills. My goal is to serve with an accuracy of 70% by the end of 3~4 weeks. We had time to practice serving in team practices, but it wasn’t really sufficient to let me really become proficient at it. Therefore, I took practices on my own every Friday during G block to improve my serving skills.

The Friday before our first friendly game marks the week I started practicing on my own. I kept in mind of Ms. Angela’s advice for improvement while practicing. Basically, the biggest weakness of mine in serving is the inconsistency in the direction of the toss. I have the strength to do an overhand serve, but my right hand that is tossing the ball up often messes it up- sometimes tossing it too behind, too left, or too right. Therefore, on my practice last Friday, I focused on tossing the ball properly (straight up with a little room for a step), as well as taking preparation steps to ensure the strength that goes in my ball.

Unfortunately, I lost count of the percentage of my serves since I was having some difficulty adjusting the angles. Despite that, I really appreciated the practice last week. At least I know what to work on now. I look forward to the next Friday 😀

Here’s a failed attempt to make a serve 😬 I will still have to work on tossing more.
