For this assignment, we are supposed to annotate poems and write our own by copying the authors’ style of writing. For the first two poems, we even recorded our poem and made it into a video. My 5 poems are shown below:

  1. If I Were In Charge Of The World Poem
  • Annotation – If I Were In Charge of the World

  • Poem – If I Were in Charge of the World

If I were in charge of the world

every dog needs to be leashed at all time

can’t chase human

nor grow larger than a 10 years old kid.

– –

If I were in charge of the world

fan meetings will be held in Kaohsiung

tickets can be purchased without a credit card,

and the postcards are not randomized.

– –

If I were in charge of the world

I’d cancel eggplant

I’d cancel scallions

I’d cancel celery

“Don’t pick out the scallions!”

Any similar sentences like this would be banned.

– –

If I were in charge of the world

bouncy castles are open to teenagers

fast pass are open to teenagers

And a person who likes to play swing sets,

And also slides

would still be allowed to be

in charge of the world.

2. Where I Am From Poem

  • Annotation – Where I’m From

  • Poem – Where I’m From

I’m from the Chinese bulbuls

from the balcony onto the mulberries.

I’m from the mulberries in the balcony.

(purplish, shimmering,

with honey, you feel in heaven)

I’m from the osmanthus tree

the aroma

and the whitish color from the core to the petals I remember

as if they were my skin color.

– –

I’m from shorties and narcissism,

from Thomas and Evelyn.

I’m from the try-your-bests

and the never-give-ups,

from tooth fairies to Santas.

I’m from Buddhism and Taoism

with incense sticks

and moon blocks, the difference I can never tell.

– –

I’m from Taipei and Guangzhou,

dim sum and Shuang Pi Nai

From the study tour my dad had,

to the date

my parents met with fate.

– –

In my wordrobe was a jersey

spilling old memories,

laughters and sweats in the 7

a film rewinding of the 6 years of my life

I am from those moments–

snapped before I budded–

was determined to start an

extraordinary life.

3. Ode Poem

  • Annotation – Ode to Family Paragraphs

  • Poem – Ode to Basketball

An orange ball with black stripes,

visually appealing, a perfect combination

– –

My favorite sport, my dearest friend,

and yes I’m a girl, so what?

– –

Two years of relationship, not too long nor too short

but way more to go.

Started in sixth grade,

10-8 we lost, but passion led us forward;

that’s why I believe,

process is more important than the result.

– –

Memories are colorful, it’s the sweet drift beneath your dreams;

or it’s

black and white, the bitter tenacity under the reality;

how about a mix

of,

orange and black stripes…?

4. List Poem

  • Annotation – Sick

  • Poem – Unknown, unseen, unheard

Have he  been curious about

the unknown, unseen, and unheard

– –

the unknown

unpredictable future

ups and downs

unknown people you will meet

a passenger, a confidant

the unknowns

– –

the unseen

unimaginable view

brightness and darkness

unseen places you will go

memorable, forgettable

the unseens and unknowns

– –

the unheard

unthinkable melody (of your life journey)

highs and lows

unheard dynamics you will feel

forte, piano

the unknowns and unheards

– –

Curiosity about the

unknown, unseen, and unheard –

treasure the present

let the future

determine the –

unknowns (so it could be known), unseens (and seen), and unheards (and heard).

5. Two-Voice Poem

  • Annotation – Lunch Room

    • Poem – The Incredible Dogs
