The food policy inside the library and media center had always been really strict in many schools, so does the school located in Kaohsiung, Kaohsiung American School.
However, on Sep 6, 2016, there were three middle school boys eating in Kaohsiung American School’s library study room. It shows up that they are surfing the internet instead of studying and doing their homework, which is undoubtedly breaking the rules and the purpose of occupying a study room.
But, let’s think in a different way. What if students that are really doing their homework inside the study room but feels hungry? Does the food policy have to be that exacting? Or could the school lower the standard?
Since the study rooms in the media center in Kaohsiung American School is often taken by high schoolers, many middle schoolers often go to the library in pairs so they could use the study room. The library in Kaohsiung American School is literally the quietest place that provides the best study environment. Thereupon, there are often many students brings food into the study room secretly to deal with their hunger.
Schools could lower the standard of the food policy by banning students from spilling crumbs all over the carpet unceremoniously, but allowing students to eat carefully. Also, the library could establish eating areas, in order to make students reach a higher learning effectiveness.
Could students eat in the library? This question becomes a knotty problem many schools need to deal with.
