I love singing since I was little, but I never had any professional training or classes. I think singing helps me to express my emotions and feeling. Also, I really like to listen to music. I played piano and Ukulele. Now I play guitar and I even write some songs of my own. From the songs, the singer sings not only the melody but expresses with emotions. Singing is also a good way to make friends. Because of singing, I met lots of new friends. Melody really brought us together.
Singing is difficult in my opinion. I often heard that people say they cannot sing and it is just not true. Some people are just born to sing, but singing can actually be trained and practiced. It’s all about breathing and controlling your voice.
Some pro tips about singing (my own experiences):
- Focus on your breathing. Inhale only when you’re supposed to and exhale appropriately. One good way to practice your breathing is to print out the lyrics, listen to the song, and mark the place where the singer inhales. After that, play the song again and practice singing by only inhale at where you marked.
- Play the song, listen to one sentence or the lyrics, pause the song and imitate the way the singer sings. The point is to listen to where they put the accent on and on which word they go high and low.
- Replace the lyrics with “nay” and sing it like ” Nay-nay-nay-nay…”. The word “nay” will help you to open your vowel which warms up your voice and open the resonance
- Turn your face towards the ceiling and sing. This is another way to practice singing powerfully. If you feel your throat drying or hurting after this exercise, that means you’re using your throat to sing. If you want your voice to sound full, then you have to learn to sing by your diaphragm instead of your throat.
- Have a good posture. Stand or sit straight. Do not tilt your body.
- Drink lots of water. Don’t eat too many spicy or strong tastes food. Protect your throat and keep your throat clean.
- Put your emotion in and enjoy the song!
I really believed that you’re really good at singing while looking at those pro tips, and I believed with your thought of how some people are born to see by having a good voice, and it’s really talented that you did not have a singing class but still got so many tips that could help people on sining, and at last, I’ve some question about this post, what kind of songs does u use to play? How did you learn your learn those pro tips of singing? I really learned lots of tips about singing in this post and I’m also kind of interesting at singing, so I would probably try those useful tips, by the way, I really want to hear about the songs you make and see some of your performances of you singing in the future.
Hello, Heloise, This is a really interesting post. After reading your post, I realized how hard everyone has tried so hard on the things they want to do good on and not it’s not just because they are born that way, it’s because they would spend their time to practice and work on it. I really think I am just not a good singer and that’s like me forever and if I met someone who can sing, I normally will just ignore their great effort and think they are just born that way which what you post about have woke me up, I shouldn’t just ignore those good singer’s effort and I shouldn’t just give up myself when I have met some problem when singing. Last but not least, I am really curious about a question: which do you think it’s more important? having a good voice or singing in the correct pitch? This post did help me with my singing skills a lot ~thank you.
