Often, we think of ourselves more than we consider our surroundings, we know our school is an innovatively-designed  environment for fabulous learning. However, have you ever thought about how people outside the school view us? This time, your beloved construction group crew has come up with a FANTASTIC idea:

To interview the neighborhood!

In the article, you will discover how the neighborhood thinks of our construction: Is the construction annoying? Does it affect their lifestyle? Are the buildings cool for them? What do they expect from our new building? Finally, what can we do to make our school look better to people outside of the KAS community?

Interviewee #1 -Juice Shop Employee

  • Any fun anecdote with the workers?

It looks like it has a good reputation.

  • Is the construction affecting your daily life? Is it clean or dusty?

Before the construction took off, KAS parents always picked up their children here. Now that the gate is on the other side, our business is getting harder as less students are buying our drinks.

  • How do you feel about the construction site?

The design is great, and the quality looks really good.

  • Are you looking forward to the finishing of the project?

It’s not really affecting our lives. I didn’t hear the neighbors talking about it either.

The first person we interviewed was a worker at the local juice shop. She was extremely grateful for the new building and told us that she had heard her neighbors praising the novel design.

Indeed, people must be excited about the design of our new building. However, the first interviewee also claimed that it actually brought some negative impacts to her business. Since the location of our front gate is now facing the other side, students and parents seem to be coming less than they did since it is too far of a walk. “No one should be blamed. I respect the way that the construction is designed.” She said.

When we asked the appearance of the current and future image of the building, she gave us a smile on her face. She was excited and said the design is terrific and impressive. She was strongly convinced that the whole school will look remarkable when it is done.

Interview # 2 – Retired Elder

  • Any fun anecdote with the workers?

沒有No

  • Is the construction affecting your daily life? Is it clean or dusty?

Nope

  • How do you feel about the construction site?

Nah

  • Are you looking forward to the finishing of the project?

沒有 No.

Next, we interviewed a retired elder, who is the keeper of the old temple. To be honest, he really shocked us. As reporters, we assumed that the people we interviewed might give us some feedback, even if the responses might be what we expected or not. This “witty” elder taught us a lesson: all of our questions were not reciprocated. This reminds us that some people do not have the passion to care for the things they are not participating in.

Interview # 3 – Taiwanese dessert vendor

  • Any fun anecdote with the workers?

My neighbor, an old lady, complained that the trucks brought dirt and water into their house, which directly faces the gate to the construction site. It seems like it’s better now.

  • Is the construction affecting your daily life? Is it clean or dusty?

There are less KAS students coming to our shop. Well, it’s too far for them to walk from the new gate to here.

  • How do you feel about the construction site?

It’s not affecting us that much.

  • Are you looking forward to the finishing of the project?

Well, the facilities aren’t for us, maybe the students would be more excited.

At last, we interviewed a Taiwanese dessert vendor. She told us that an old lady who lives next door complained about the truck bringing dirt and water into her house, but the situation is much better now. She also claimed that the construction has brought some negative impacts on her business. The new gate is too far from her store and less KAS students are buying her desserts. Moreover, she said that the construction does not bring her too much expectation since the facilities aren’t open to people outside of KAS.

From the interviews above, we have gathered some thoughts from the neighborhood about our construction. Some people said their business has been influenced due to the declined number of customers; some said they are looking forward for our new school; some people simply do not care much about its effects on their neighborhood nor on their lifestyles.

As we look  forward of our future facilities, we should also be aware that our neighborhood might be affected by us and strive to be a positive influence in the community. It is understandable that people don’t have much expectation for our new building, as they are not personally attached to it. Thus, we should remember how lucky we are to have such a well-designed school, which is most certainly to facilitate world-class education.

As always,
