September 16 marked the commencement of one of the most popular KAS traditions: Spirit Week. For those who have not yet been informed, Spirit Week is a Student Council organized activity that allows students to dress and participate in themed activities. It is a way for students to engage with each other within the school community as well as to raise school spirit. Dressing up, joining in fun activities, and taking lots and lots of selfies.
What’s not to love?

The themes chosen this year by the KAS High School Student Council are as follows:

Pajama Monday

Twin-day Tuesday

Monochrome Wednesday

Character day Thursday

KAS Friday.

If you didn’t catch on to the scores, here’s your chance.
On Monday, the Seniors took the lead in the pillow fight with the Juniors right behind them, winning them first place on the leaderboard.

The course completion race the following day ended with the same results.

However, as the dodge ball match came to an end on Wednesday, the Juniors came out victorious.

Then again during the name-tag death matchthe juniors beautifully caught up with the seniors.

Friday’s tug of war was the final competition between the two top competitors and ended with the Junior’s triumphant win, claiming the throne of the 2015 KAS Spirit Week. Better luck next year to the Sophomores and Freshies.

As Spirit Week came to a close, we took to the internet to find out how the High Schooler’s thought of the spirit week events.

We asked our fellow students to rate the Spirit Week activities on the scale of 1 to 10, and the average score between interviewees reached a 7.3, which is considered to be fairly high.

We can conclude that most students do indeed like the idea of competitions, but they think that Stuco should try and help open up the availability of participation slots as a lot of people are quite eager to join in on the activities.

What the students were most commonly dissatisfied about was the fact that, for the students who have been at KAS for a while, the themes appear to be recycled from previous years and are just not perceived as exciting anymore. As a few of our respondents stated, To be honest, some of the themes were pretty boring so I didn’t have as much fun dressing up for some of the  themes compared to last year”. Others have said that  Some people are not participating, the activities are fun, but they should try to let more people participate in the game, since a lot of people are desperate to join.”

As a growing community, we all hope that Stuco will take our comments and opinions into consideration and improve future events. Whether it be a couple months from now or next year, we hope that Stuco will continue to help improve our school activities and add to the ‘spirit’ of the school.
