Statement of Inquiry
The way in which we collect, represent and interpret data helps us to identify patterns, understand relationships and solve real-world problems.
This was our first unit in math. It was about data and statistics. Now that we are finished with the unit, I will reflect on my own attitude, behavior, and progress in math. I will discuss my progress using 2 ATL Skills: Self-Management Skills and Thinking Skills.
Self-Management
During this unit, I think I did a good job with self-management skills. I always use my time wisely in class. I like to try to get all of my work done and if I need help, I ask the teacher for clarification. I try not to distract other people and I am very responsible with all of my homework. Also, I studied for the test so I think I did my best using my self-management skills.
Thinking Skills
During this unit, I really did try to use my thinking skills as much as possible, although I didn’t do a very good job on the problem that was challenging and unfamiliar. I think I can practice using my thinking skills more when I am trying to solve challenging problems, and especially word problems. I can highlight the important parts of the problem to make sure that I understand the problem. Then, I can practice drawing pictures to help me solve problems or I can practice solving problems in different ways. But now I know it is important to show my thinking on paper.
The Learner Profile
I think that I was a risk-taker in math class because I always try to raise my hand and volunteer or share answers in front of people. I am a risk-taker when I do this because sometimes I am shy and I am afraid of getting the wrong answer, but I think I tried my best to share.
I was being a thinker in math because I really tried to solve more challenging problems in my journal. I did not skip any problems. Also, I like to try to solve the challenging riddles that Ms. Chagaris recently gave to us in class.
I was being principled in math because I was always organized with my work and responsible for all of my homework. I always tried my best in class every day, and I am very respectful of my classmates. If I want to improve, I think I can try to practice problems on ixl.com every day for at least 5 minutes per day.
