“Me”…in a Nutshell

People who (at least) know my existence would probably know that I’m a total Model United Nations (MUN) nerd and a part-time nerd in all the other subjects. However, I’m also passionate about a lot of other things: painting, cooking, writing…and much more yet to be explored.

When it comes to creativity, the only constraints are probably time and money. One of my favorite moments in daily life is when I can not worry about time, grab my canvas, and sketch (then probably paint) whatever I want for however long I want. I also love it when I can create mandalas endlessly, just as such cleanses my soul and brings me to a realm where I have nothing to worry about. What came up surprising is how I’ve discovered my interest in digital art recently as I began designing products for the KAS Business club and for charity sells. Besides art, I also am a huge fan of writing. Although I identify myself as more of an analytical writer, I actually enjoy writing poems when I ought to express my feelings through words.

Although I’m definitely not an “A” person in athletics (spot the irony here?), I’ve been trying my best to engage in physical activities as much as I can. I’ve actually loved playing soccer although I was slightly discouraged by the fact that I wasn’t chosen to be on the team. I find myself enjoying the play a lot, but I do need to work on strengthening my kicks and speed. Also, over summer, I’ve started doing at-home workouts. This actually has a funny story behind it…as my friend and I had a bet that says if I don’t lose weight over the summer, I would need to ask someone (yes, that’s all I’m gonna tell you…a someone) out. Although the two of us had already forgotten about (or chosen to ignore) this bet, workouts such as planks, plank dips, and crunches, are starting to grow on me. Although the physical change is slight and gradual, I can feel myself becoming healthier and fitter day by day. I’m loving myself more, eventually.

Having acknowledged the fact that this sounds simply idealistic and naive, I’ve always been a person who strives to see how can I contribute to the world. I wouldn’t say I live by the idea of altruism, but I sure am inspired by the life goal of serving others to better their lives. This is why service will most likely be my favorite strain of my CAS experience. Besides volunteering, I enjoy coming up with innovative ways to serve the community. Last year, I found my very own Charity Art Club where students create art with a cause—that is, to raise awareness, to fundraise, and to give back to society. Although this club is still at its early stages, I would say, it is striving to grow bigger and stronger this year.

I’m constantly doing self-reflections because although it gets weary at times, I believe in the importance of inspecting yourself from time to time to recognize your strengths and weaknesses as well as your mistakes. Hence, you could say I’m a reflective person. I also remind myself to stay conscious of my surroundings and their needs at all times, because to me, it’s crucial to help those in need. With that, I remind myself it’s important to always be a caring person.

I wouldn’t, anyhow, call myself a risk-taker since I although I have been stepping out lately, I’m still relatively afraid of taking a bigger step out of my comfort zone.

“So many things to do, so little time” is what a lot of people, including me, can easily relate to. However, I hope I can get the best of me out of my CAS experience—to broaden my horizons and explore my potentials. Here, I challenge myself to step out of the comfort zone, to be optimistic about new challenges, and to utilize my time in the best way possible. I’m ready to see a new me, if that’s not too much to say.
