Me, My Headphones, and My Knowledge

The object I’ve presented during my IB Core show-and-tell presentation is that of my headphones – and for good reason. While its connection to my history as a knower and thinker may not be obvious, it helps to know that practically everything I do, everyday, have almost always involved these headphones. It has been a tool that connects me to ideas and important resources that shape my perspective as a thinker, and converts important information into sound.

From Youtube videos of me teaching myself on the subjects I love and the hobbies I’m interested in to working with it as an equipment on a film set making videos to even learning on Khan Academy and educational videos – headphones have laways been there when I’m building myself up as a knower and thinker. It’s a literal pathway to the sea of information known as the internet, all of which amasses together to form what is my education, both in and outside of school.

As a knower and thinker, it’s important to never stop questioning our own ideas and paths, as well as that of others. The best way would perhaps to understand and hear out the perspectives and ‘knowledge’ of different groups for one to decide what he/she personally believes to be correct and not necessarily what’s easy to like. Belief isn’t the same as knowledge, and although the two aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive, personal belief likewise are influenced by a multitude of factors that can only depend on what one values most.

Through my use of headphones, I’ve been able to help myself grow to realize such things.
