What building techniques make the tower stronger?
Usually, a thicker or stronger structure of the base makes the overall tower stronger, since even if the top of the structure is super thin or light since without a strong foundation, the top cannot be supported in the first place.
Does the placing of the marshmallow affect the strength of the tower?
Yes, since it would add a lot more mass for the base to handle, and the higher up the marshmallow is, and the further it is from the base that supports it, the easier it would be to collapse, but the lower the marshmallow and closer to the base, the less likely it would collapse.
Could you build a stronger tower with more of the same materials? What alternative materials would be better?
Yes, since it would give me a lot more freedom to build more support and increase the overall strength and height of the tower. Any alternative material stronger and sturdier than a spaghetti would be good since it makes the overall structure much harder to crash.
Does the size of the base alter the strength of the tower?
Yes, since the sturdier the base, the more the base can support as a foundation. As strong as the top of the building is, a weak base can still easily collapse a tower.
How do you think you worked as a group? Did you assume different roles? Did all groups work in the same way?
Yes, and we all assumed different roles – Evan cut the tape for everyone, someone would handle the base, someone else would handle the top and so on. That’s good since the more people working on one area makes it much harder to actually have space to work, and by varying the space it gives everyone enough space to do what they need.
