I do not think individuals should have a private right to own guns even when they are not in the militia. In modern society, there are no reasons to allow gun rights for citizens. There is a military in every country. For the USA, if they disallow gun rights and make a change to their amendments, that would lower the number of shootings that are happening. That being said, no guns are allowed, in a way, no self-defence is needed. No one would need a gun to fight against another gun if guns are banned.
In the amendment, it does state, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” It says that Militias are allowed to own guns. This contradicts the society today, there are armies to defend the country. And yes it does state that “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed” This is what those who own guns could say against the case of not owning firearms. I think the amendment should be edited and firearms should not be allowed because the militia is no longer needed.
