This month’s CAS was filled with different experiences. Beginning the soccer season, continuing with hockey, beginning boxing again and also taught people around me certain things.
The soccer season has begun, unluckily, two weeks in, I’ve torn my ATFL slightly. Landing myself in a grade 2 ATL injury. However, that did not stop me from pursuing my goals. It was tough to get injured at first, but I told myself to train other parts of my body during this time. I began researching for my workout on how to improve on pull-ups as they’re one of the hardest exercises to perform. Just one week in, I’ve increased my pull-up reps by around 2-3.
More hockey for this week. But it was an obvious progression from rusty to being in the game. Last week, slippery off the wheels because it is worn off and also having a bad balance on the skates. Now, I’m able to sprint on skates but also do any movements that I need to perform during the game.
Also, I decided to get back into boxing regularly as well. It wasn’t until now that I realized how many similarities there were between hockey and boxing. A lot of techniques that require a certain muscle movement or core engagement applies the same way in hockey and boxing. For example, the transfer of weight between the legs to shoot well in hockey directly transfers to throwing punches in boxing.
Lastly, I’ve always loved teaching people things, especially from one culture to another. I’ve taught a friend to play hockey and he’s become really good at it. Though, now I began teaching a friend how to skate and play hockey. But this time it’s different, he’s Canadian as well and loves the sport, it was surprising how fast he picked it up. In addition to that, I taught some friends what I learned from my personal trainer in the gym. For the season, players would want better acceleration and agility. So it was interesting to see every person develop differently as I’ve been in the same shoe.
Here are footages of me deking other players during the game. Showed improvements from a week ago in the end of August.
