During this Unit, we read the play A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen. We learned about the world in the 19th century and how this play portrays the social issue from that time which is still existent to this day.

In this embedded document, I’ve written my analysis in an outline. I followed guidelines and taken the good elements from the example we were given to analyze (Shown below). Of course, this is just the outline, we later moved onto writing an actual formal analysis. But throughout the entire process which seemed like a lot of work, I’ve learned a lot of small details that would improve a written piece of work. Whether that’s staying consistent on the appropriate choice of tense or connecting everything to an accurate rationale. It was not the easiest to see so many perspectives and string everything together. Looking through the playwright Ibsen’s perspective on the 19th century, then taking in the actual comments of those who were around in the 19th century (example shown below). And finally, connecting all of the viewpoints with my and the perspectives nowadays. All the differences helped to make a contrast in analyzing what A Doll’s House really is trying to represent.

In this example, we took a look at the real-world scenarios in the 19th century. We analyzed what the Queen said and what the world looked like at that time. The inequality among genders, where women are to be seen as to only support the men. We then applied this new information to the play, and analyze the play with a more realistic point of view. I think this helped me think from the perspective of living in that time, it showed me what kind of society Nora was living in.

Before we wrote our analysis essay, we took a look at a few examples. Here I learned about the organization of an analysis essay, there isn’t an actual order, but including things and weaving the information together well would boost the quality of the essay by a lot.

Here is a photo of my reading journal, when I first began, I didn’t connect the information and examples that I wrote down to a real-world situation. But as we move past each act, it became more clear of what the statement of this play was about. It became clear of what real-world situation this play could be compared to and that makes the information I recieve from the play more sophisticated.
