Galileo Galilei

You might know Galileo Galilei as a great astronomer or a great scientist, we could also call him the greatest teacher, mathematician, author and philosopher. He uses his mathematician skills to draw, taught and changed the world’s thought about the solar system.

Galileo, born on February 15, 1564 in Pisa, Italy. He was the oldest of the seven children in his house. His mother, Guilia, was well educated, which was unusual for women at that time in Europe, since, girls didn’t really go to school. His dad, Vincenzo, was a great music teacher and a lute player, he taught Galileo to draw in perspective, using mathematical skills to make a picture that looks realistic, Galileo likes to draw pictures that time, so he wanted to become a painter when he grow up. He has another great talented invention when he is small, which is making little mechanical toys. Galileo learned from his father to experiment with new ideas by using mathematics, for example, in the old times musicians followed mathematical rules for making new music, but they were stuck because sometimes the music and math won’t go together and they still believe in mathematical skills is the same as music; Vincenzo-Galileo’s dad- argued with that rule, so he experimented on the strings of the newer instruments and created wonderful new melodies by breaking the old rules. However, Galileo followed his dad’s rule, which is trying to write new kinds of music as well. He wrote a letter to his music teacher Zarlino(A master of old musical ideas). Zarlino wouldn’t listen to Vincenzo’s ideas, but Vincenzo publish them anyway. From that Galileo learned from his dad to not be afraid of publishing new ideas. (Boekoff, 6-7)

Galileo was curious about the space and our milky way solar system, so he decided to try to make a tool that can zoom in the things from far away. However, at last he invented a telescope that could zoom in 40 times bigger of the thing that we seen in our eyes, that is a great invention in the old times. He discover the Saturn’s ring, Jupiter’s moons and the Earth’s moon, but his biggest discovery is the sun is in the middle of the Solar system with planets orbiting it, and that time no one believed him and the church theory was against him, so sadly he got exiled in his own house. However he didn’t stop discovering things, he used the idea of telescope to invent another zooming tool, which is a microscope. A microscope can see some really small things such as bacteria, blood DNA.-(n.d.). Retrieved December 15, 2014, from http://www.biography.com/people/galileo-9305220

After he died, his believe and discovery about the sun is in the middle of the solar system with planets orbiting it got approved and that is why we know, now, that the sun is in the middle. He is the teacher of all, a great mathematician, astronomer and scientist.
