In this unit I picked out a global issue to analyze through the works that we’ve done for the past semester. There is a lot to choose from and I chose to analyze my global issue, social injustice, with Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi and Icarus by Bryan Fogel.

Persepolis is an intriguing story that depicts her childhood as well as parts of her adulthood and it shows how she lived through the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Icarus a documentary that won the best documentary award in 2017. It’s a story that filmmaker Bryan Fogel has put together to reveal the truths of what happened with the Russian doping scandal in the biggest sports scenes, the Olympics.

I chose the global issue of social injustice because it is timeless. No matter what there will always be differences among individuals in societies and that could create issues with justice. There are many ways to create injustice and tension created by differences is just one of many. When I was reading Persepolis I found that when Satrapi is in a foreign place she meets a lot of new people with different social backgrounds. Sometimes, because of these different social backgrounds, it creates an unfriendly exchange, it’s an example of social injustice.

Below are some examples of works that I’ve done during this semester, these are some mini-IOs.
