Throughout this unit of bias in media. We learned how stereotypes could influence individuals and societies’ perspectives in various ways. We’ve been introduced to different types of media and how sorts of bias are used similarly and differently conditions. The followings below are the assignments we’ve done in this unit.
My product shows a soldier appears on a TV channel that he got injured from protecting the people but what actually happened was that he kills many people during a war. On the drawing, you could see a TV frame that only shows the upper part body of the soldier but the lower part of his body exposed outside of the TV frame which reveals the ugly TRUTH. This expresses the concept of bias in journalism and news media. From the drawing, you can see the frame conveys the idea of the hidden message under the edited words of news reports. The soldier seems innocent from the view of the general public but he actually stands amongst the heaps of dead bodies with blood. The purpose of setting a frame there is to restrict how the viewers looking at this particular event while it did not examine the truth of how it was actually executed. This is a typical case of interpreting out of context. This tactic often appears in various media in our daily life. It enlarges parts of the story and blocks people’s view on certain things. Media are used throughout our everyday lives. Biases are easily spread through those mediums. As a result, people can receive much wrong information directly or indirectly. For example, the story of the soldier can relate to politics and many controversies between countries. The perspectives of society can be influenced by slight bias in different media.
