In this summer, I went to Seattle, America. I went there for camp and to meet with some of my relatives living there. The camp that I went to was a camp called Green Energy Camp. The camp teaches you what is global warming happening to the world, and what we do to slow it down. We also did some experiments that uses solar panels to generate electricity for cars that we make for ourselves.
On the first and second day, we were first introduced to what we will be learning in the 2 weeks. The first experiment that we did was generating electricity through wind turbines with three variables. The three of them are angles, length, and number of blades. When me and my group finished testing, we found out that three blades, 45 degree, and 8 inches works the best.
On the third and fourth day, we made solar cars. We basically made a car out of scratch, and then put a generator and a solar panel on the car. The goal is to see how fast your car can get out of a circle and how well your cars were built. The circle is about 5 meters in diameter. Mine got out of the circle in 6 seconds.
On the fifth day, we were supposed to make a penguin house. Building a house for a penguin and put it out in the sun to see how long can you “penguin” last. Me and my partner made an igloo with 7 layers of felt and a layer of aluminum with a foam board as a base. Our ice cube lasted for 47 minutes, which was about average and a bit above in all of them.
I think this camp was pretty intresting, because I get to learn about what global warming is doing to us and what we can do to prevent it. The experiments that we did was somewhat challenging, because you really need to think hard and test mulitiple times to get your ultimate project.
