“Jason Mraz – I Won’t Give Up [Official Music Video].” YouTube. YouTube, n.d. Web. 27 May 2015.
I think this song relates to the chocolate war, because it talked about not giving up no matter what. For example, it says “Well, I won’t give up on us. Even if the skies get rough.” The meaning to it is that he won’t give up even if things are going not well. I think it relates to the chocolate war, because Jerry, never gives up on saying no on selling his chocolates. He never gives up on doing what he wants to do.
2.Morgan Frazier – Hey Bully
“Morgan Frazier – Hey Bully (Official Music Video).” YouTube. YouTube, n.d. Web. 27 May 2015.
I think this song relate to the chocolate war, because Archie, Brother Leon, Janza, and Emile all uses words to manipulate people around him. He uses words to affect other people’s feelings and makes other people feel offended. For example, a quote in the book says “You could take a kid’s lunch money and nothing usually happened because most kids wanted peace at any price.” It is saying that people wants to avoid bullies at any price.
“Green Day: “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” – [Official Video].” YouTube. YouTube, n.d. Web. 27 May 2015.
This song relates to the chocolate war, because he refuses to sell the chocolates. Jerry felt alone as though that the whole school is against him. A part of the song, it says “I walk alone I walk alone”. I think that part relates to the book, because at school, no one notices him. It is like he is invisible. He is alone, and Goober, the only person who cares about him didn’t go to school.
4. Lifehouse – Broken
“Lifehouse – Broken.” YouTube. YouTube, n.d. Web. 27 May 2015.
This song relates to the chocolate war, because this song is about someone being very sad, and is falling apart. In parts of the song, “I’m falling apart, I’m barely breathing
with a broken heart that’s still beating
In the pain (in the pain), is there healing
In your name (in your name) I find meaning
So I’m holdin’ on (I’m still holdin’), I’m holdin’ on (I’m still holdin’), I’m holdin’ on (I’m still holdin’)

“Do you lock yourself in your room?”. It is the same as Goober always running away from the world and rarely comes out.

I think this song relates to the chocolate war, because this song is about not really caring about others and just doing what you want. I think it relates to the chocolate war, because Jerry, just cares about that he doesn’t want to sell the chocolates, but not caring about what Brother Leon feels and what the Vigils is feeling.
“Korn – Freak on a Leash.” YouTube. YouTube, n.d. Web. 27 May 2015.
I think this song relates to the chocolate war, because both this song and the chocolate war has parts that people takes things away from them. For example, Jerry sort of lost his freedom by the Vigils and by Brother Leon. In this song, some of the lyrics is like “Something takes a part of me. Something lost and never seen.”.
“New Year’s Day | You’ll Only Make It Worse +Lyrics.” YouTube. YouTube, n.d. Web. 27 May 2015.

I’m sorry that I cared,
I’m sorry that I played the games you did,
They never got us anywhere.
I’m sorry if this hurts you,
I’m sorry I just lied,
The truth is, I don’t care if you get hurt or not,
For all the tears you’ve made me cry”
It is about being alone. In The Chocolate War, it is also about Jerry being alone having no friends.
“Hello Lonely.” YouTube. YouTube, n.d. Web. 27 May 2015.
I think this song relates to the chocolate war, because both songs are about being lonely and being sad. In parts of this song it says, “Hello lonely
How you doin’ today?
Hello sweet thing
Why don’t you walk this way?
Hello, you again
How could you go and be so cold?
She said “Goodbye sad man”
Cuz all this pain is getting old”.
In the chocolate war, Jerry is bullied by other kids and he is lonely. In school, nobody cares about him. He is just alone.
12. Mark Wills – Don’t Laugh At Me
“Mark Wills – Don’t Laugh At Me.” YouTube. YouTube, n.d. Web. 27 May 2015.
I think this song relates to the chocolate war, because both songs is about a kid that nobody and respects and cares. The character in the song is just like Jerry. Nobody ever cares about him, they think he is weird. That he is not following orders. In parts of the lyrics, it says “I’m a little boy with glasses
The one they call the geek
A little girl who never smiles
‘Cause I’ve got braces on my teeth
And I know how it feels
To cry myself to sleep.”
The character in the story is just like Jerry. Except nobody laugh at him. They just simply pretend that Jerry is not there.
TIEA (Comparing song book):
Some lyrics in songs can have a connection to The Chocolate War. In the song Good Charlotte-I Just Wanna Live, In parts of the song, it says “I just wanna live
Don’t really care about the things that they say
Don’t really care about what happens to me
I just wanna live”.
The lyrics for that part of the song is saying that the character in the song doesn’t really care about anything. He just wants to live his own life. That he doesn’t want anybody to mess with him and help him make the decisions. In the story of The Chocolate War, the character Jerry is exactly like the lyrics of the song. He doesn’t care about anything the The Vigils is saying or anything Brother Leon is saying. He just do things in his own way. He already made his heart on not selling the chocolates, so no matter what anybody tells him, he still won’t sell the chocolates. Jerry also wants people to leave him alone, because he is not showing any difficulties and showing that he just wants to be alone and not be part of the selling chocolate event. This shows that Jerry and the character in the song is alike, that their minds won’t be changed no matter what.
TIEA (Book):
Jerry doesn’t sell chocolates no matter what and doesn’t sell chocolates even if other people tell him to sell chocolates. In chapter 13, Brother Leon started telling people to sell 50 chocolate boxes. Everyone agreed to sell the chocolates, but Jerry said no. Jerry sort of ignore everything that has to do with the chocolates. I think Jerry should sell the chocolates, because not accepting a job would set him in a very bad place. People would pretend he is invisible or think he is a weird person daring to disturb Brother Leon. Then in Chapter 17, Brother Leon asks everybody again about how many chocolates they sold. When it got to Jerry’s turn. He still refuses to sell chocolates for Brother Leon. Then at chapter 19, he still refuses to sell the chocolates again no matter how many times Gouber tells him to sell the chocolates or under the pressure of Brother Leon. In the rest of the book, Jerry still refuses to sell the chocolates no matter what.
