Princess Mononoke

Welcome, everyone. Today the topic will be a Japanese movie called Princess Mononoke.

Today in class, we watched a movie called Princess Mononoke. The movie is about a young warrior called Ashitaka who is cursed. To save his life, he has to find a cure in the forest. On the way, he came across a conflict between humans and beasts. The humans were led by a figure called Lady Eboshi, and the beasts significant figure is Princess Mononoke. Ashitaka, seeing good on both side, do not want conflict and tried to stop each other from fighting one another, but he was seen as an enemy by both sides.  Both the human and beast think they are helping the other side. After a huge battle in the forest, the humans took the deer god’s head, which caused a wild chase. Eventually, Ashitaka returned it and the movie ended happily.

My favorite character in this movie is the Deer God, because of some of its scenes are quite entertaining to watch. For example, near the climax of the movie, its head grew, which I find quite entertaining. Another thought that came up to me was that the animation made in this video is actually quite advanced. This movie was directed in 1997, and the animation was very well developed.

Despite all these positives, I did find this movie very shallow. This movie does not have a clear storyline and does not have many developments on some key characters. After 2/3s of the movie, I found things quite dull, because it was just action.

Overall, this movie is well developed in terms of visual appearance but lacks plot.

Do I recommend it?

Yes

Thanks for tuning in. See you next time!
