Building a Muon Detector

Muons are similar to electrons but way heavier. I’m attempting to detect them by building this device. This video shows me soldering electrical components onto the circuit board. The soldering iron I’m using has a blackened tip, making the soldering process extra hard. When the tip is overused (burned to black), the solder tends to stick onto the tip and creates smoke and foul smell instead of sticking onto the circuit board. Since I couldn’t find a replacement for the tip, I had to stick with the the overused one. I overcome the problem by constantly cleaning the soot from the tip using the gel, so at least a little silver is visible. Then, I place the cleaned tip on the circuit board, heating the electrical components. This way, when I place the solder onto the electrical component, it will melt directly onto the circuit board instead of sticking onto the solder iron due to surface tension.
