Drill plans:
10/7 Reflection:
- First drill is effective. I will let the girls do it next practice too.
- For the second drill, I realize that the girls are running slowly. I need to modify the drill so that they will try their hardest in running down the field. Maybe I can add a third person in the middle to try to get the ball from the other two passers.
- Controlling with inside and outside foot isn’t smooth.
10/14 Reflection:
- I realize we’ve only been doing drills focusing on specific skills. I need to go over key rules (offside and proper thrown-ins) and let them practice situations that may happen in game.
- Things to work on: offside, throw-in, corner kick, marking players, clearing the ball.
- 2v1 drills at a medium size goal with a goalie in goal would be good to practice for keeping possession, spreading out, passes, and speed in addition to defending.
- Defense should work on clearing the ball out to the sides (never down the middle).
- Practice goalie punt and goal kicks.
10/21 Reflection:
- 2 vs. 1 drill really helped the girls understand off-side.
- Only the mid-fielder was able to do corner kicks.
- During the scrimmage
- The girl’s attacker tends to cramp up. Need to set them as wingers and let the mid field be the center.
- Since they aren’t that good on footwork, they should avoid possessing the ball for too long. Practice cross field passes.
- Tend to throw the ball backward (towards their net) during throw-ins.
- Goal kicks aren’t powerful enough, giving the ball to opponents. (back up plan: let mid-fielder do goal kicks)
- Need to practice marking the players and the position to stand during the opponent’s corner kicks.
- Tell them: always stay between the opponent and the net (goal side defending); one person needs to position at the far post.
- The girl’s attacker tends to cramp up. Need to set them as wingers and let the mid field be the center.
