Landfill Becomes Beautiful Park

“Is it possible to turn wasteland into a park filled with trees?” — 2016.9.6

There are lots of items that we use every day, and then get rid of by throwing them into the garbage. Unfortunately, this results in piles of trash, called landfill. Scientist estimates that each person generates 2 kg of trash per day. If we keep wasting items, the amount of landfills would be speeded up in an accelerated rate. We need to come up with a good solution to slow down or reduce those trash.

Usually, people reduce landfills by burning solid trash, in order to clear out more space. However, while burning , it’ll pollute air, which is the major cause of air pollution. Kaohsiung mayor came up with a good idea. She decided to cover trash hills with mud and grass. Then started to grow trees, and build small lakes. Finally, after few years of work, the landfill becomes a beautiful park. All trash are buried beneath those grass hills. This not only uses land wisely but also decreases the chances of creating further pollution. Now, it is even a tourist attraction. You can always see tour buses next to the park when passing by. One of the visitors even said, “This park is amazing!”
