This month’s theme in Thanksgiving. We wanted to share some of the western culture with the kids, but we have to be cautious of how we introduce this holiday because “family” may be a sensitive topic to these kids. We came up with two activities, one indoor and one outdoor.
Preparation
Teaching Vocabulary
Activity Center: Throwing Pingpong Ball
Basketball Court: Capturing Turkey Feathers
Reflection
The overall event is pretty successful compare to last month. This time, we only have two activities instead of six, plus the activities were in two different locations, so the kids wouldn’t run to different places when they’re not suppose to. The competition between teams for throwing pingpong ball is really effective. It urges them to cooperate as a team and learn the vocabularies. The feather capturing activity was also better than I expected. The kids didn’t fight or run around crazy. The only downside was that the rules were a little too complicated for the them. The vocabularies chosen this month is not that challenging. Words like pie sounds like its mandarin translation, and feather sounds like “fly” in mandarin. The kids did successfully memorize the vocabularies.
