What did one mouse say to its date?
“Will you CHEESE go to the dance with me?”

As the end of summer approaches, a “Summer Night Hangout” was held at Kaohsiung American School as the theme of this year’s homecoming dance. This was the first dance held at the new campus of KAS, and it was surely a memorable one. Amid the loud music blasted by our wonderful DJ Annabeth “Kitty” Kuo, students partied hard and actively participated in various activities, including rap battles and lip-sync battles.

In addition to the dance, there was also a buffet serving delicious food outdoors beneath the night sky. Stockton, currently a freshmen, said, “The homecoming was probably the best one so far. The food was good.”

To add some colors to the event, a booth was set up by the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) for neon body painting services. With only a cost of 50 NT, students could prepare images or designs, or leave it to the artists’ talent to create pieces of beautiful artwork on their bodies. During the dance, intricate patterns in neon colors painted on people’s arms or faces were seen everywhere. Thank you, NAHS, you surely made the dance a very creative one with your collective impressive artistic skills!

The dance started off with a fierce rap battle. William Chiu from 11th grade and Alex Liu from 12th grade, with their bravery and outstanding linguistic talents, improvised and belted out rap lines that amazed everyone surrounding the two competitors. After rounds of intense verbal exchanges and applause from everyone present, the battle came to an end, announcing Alex Liu as the winner.

Thus, the dance started. There is no better word than “thrilling” to describe the dance itself. Several energetic souls showed off their dance moves along with the rhythms of the music, and others had a relaxing and joyful time spent on the dancefloor with their peers.

Of the high schoolers at the dance we interviewed, the majority were very content with the ticket price this time, which was significantly lower compared to the prices from the previous dances. Joshua, currently a junior, who is actively engaged in Student Council, said, The ticket price was great, and it’s cheaper if you go with a partner, so that’s great too! Jonathan, a senior, commented that the ticket price was “relatively cheap” compared to that of the last few dances. Students could expect the ticket price to be satisfying in the future now that the new campus provides a perfect environment for dances to be held.

To come to a conclusion, the dance was a successful one that allowed students to take a break from all the schoolwork, and share valuable moments with their friends and peers.

Good job, Student Council!
