People always loved and cared more about other superstars like Lebron, Kobe, Durant, Paul, Wade, and all the others. What they don’t realize is that these players never had the shooting touches as Wardell Stephen Curry II (Steph Curry) had. You don’t see NBA players draining 70 consecutive 3 pointers in practice on a coincidence, and you don’t see someone breaking NBA playoff record of most 3pt field goal made on random.
The touches, the feel, the release, all have to be perfect and to do that 70 times straight is just tough enough, and shooting as high percentage as that during the playoffs where you’re pressured and each shot can hurt your team badly if you miss is just pure mental stress.Stephen Curry is now a NBA champion and a regular season MVP. You can argue that he isn’t the best player. What you can’t argue, is that he is one of the rare NBA players that made themselves a name just by his pure shooting and his humbleness on the court, and that he is a shooter of this new era. This is a story of him before his NBA dream.
As a kid, Stephen Curry already made himself a dream of being a pro athlete and a NBA player if possible, after being trained by his father Wardell Curry, leading all time Charlotte hornets scoring leader Wardell Stephen Curry I. His dad taught him all the fundamentals of shooting and basketball drills when Curry was a kid, hard work and patience came to him as he matured quickly as a kid and winning became a determined thing for him. In middle school, he was a starting PG for his team Queensway Christian College in Etobicoke, Ontario where he lead the team to a undefeated successful basketball season.
Going on to HS, he went to Charlotte Christian HS where he was named all-state, all-conference, and led his team to three conference titles and three state playoff appearances. This got a couple of scout’s attention, but he was never on a radar of those major colleges. Most of them wasn’t even interested in him because he wasn’t even 6ft, and his appearance became his downfall of not being selected by stronger college teams. In the end, he decided to select a unpopular college, Davidson college, that hasn’t won a single championship since 1968.
What stunned the world and what made Curry famous, took place right in college, leading the team in scoring( all time leading scorer), 3-point field-goals made, in 30-point games, and he become the All-time Davidson College leader in 40-point games, lead in College freshman points, steals, assist, and became the best freshman of the college.
Using the “no major college selecting him because of his appearance” as a motivation, he forced himself to grow and train hard to become one of the best players in NCAA. Only to fall short of a region title against Kansas university, after that he waited one more season in his junior year so that he could become a fitted PG for the NBA.
He made a name for himself in college as one of the premier guards of the NCAA division I basketball, and winning:
player of the year award,
SoCon Player of the year two times, and received
freshman of the year award.
He was also selected as
consensus first team all American second team in 2007, and first team in 2008,
3x first team all tournament, and a
2x SoCon all tournament player of the year.
Working his butt off everyday and trying to treat every game like his last with the winning mentality. He quickly became a top prospect, but his appearance again prevented him from becoming a 1st pick, he landed in 7th pick of the 2009 NBA draft and selected by the GSW, and continues to play for them to this day.
Its hard to say what his future career will unfold, but his shooting and his mentality helped him become the leader of the pack in Davidson, and in Golden State Warriors. Where he continued his college greatness to NBA and is now currently also a popular athlete as famous as Lebron James and all the others was. Hard work does pay off, Stephen Curry had a good habit of that ever since he was a kid, and it continued on to shaping a new NBA greatness.
