On Monday of December 15th, 2014, a hostage situation shocks Australia as police force are called in on Lindt Chocolate Cafe in downtown Sydney,Australia. Initial reports said that there was armed robbery of the cafe, which was later disregarded as an Australian news broadcast stations shows footage of hostage holding an black islamic banner up to the window, Man Haron Monis, the gunman wearing a bandana can also be seen from the footages.
A day later, on Tuesday, o220hrs, the police started moving into the cafe, assaulting it and attempting to rescue the hostages.Man Haron Monis has been killed following a crossfire in the cafe. 22 minutes later the siege is complete as police force ended the hostage situation.
However, 2 civilian personels has been killed, identified as Katrina Dawson, and Tori Johnson. There was also 4 injured personels, including a policeman who suffered a head wound from a gunshot pellets, all personels were later confirmed being under safe conditions and recovering from injury,
Shortly after the siege ended Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said in a statement- The “horrific incident” at the cafe had been “tragic beyond words” and there were “lessons to be learned” from this “brush with terrorism”. The owner of the cafe also said in the statement-“We are devastated by the loss of their lives and that several others were wounded and had to experience such trauma.”. Prime Minister Tony Abbott offered his condolences to the deads and the workers of the cafe who had to experience this “trauma”.
