Now that you have your flag created, how could you determine if it is successful?
A: Yes, I believe it is successful. The reason why is that I followed my own plan of attack and things went relatively smooth throughout the process of flag designing and making on Inkscape. Thus, with correct plans followed, and a decent flag created, I think this is a successful operation.
How well does your final flag design match the specifications you made in the assignment “A Rough Plan”?
A: I believe that it matched my rough plan perfectly. I already had an mindset approaching the actual design that there isn’t gonna be much changes made to make the flag. Other than the tools I’ve used being different, the others were exactly the same. I wanted my flag to have an depth of interpretation, a lot of the hidden themes can be identified in connection to Taiwan. History was also reflected, which involves in nationalism, unity, and our cultural uniqueness.
The only changes I made was the usage of tools I’ve used in Inkscape. I didn’t use as many freehand line as it seems to make my flag ugly. The spray and painting tool was also not used since that paint spiraled out of control and everytime I tried to use it that never went my way. At last, I also didn’t use the eraser since it really wasn’t helpful, undoing my mistake was more useful than it. It’s called eraser when it isn’t erasing stuff. I decided not to use these, as a result my flag actually looked better without them.
How could your flag be improved?
A: If I have to improve it I’d have to go back and edit my plans with deems the operation unsuccessful because I didn’t follow my original planning. It went so smooth as silk, although I did ran into some technical problems using Inkscape. I eventually solved it by restarting the app and continued on designing the flag with ease. I only had to switch the tools I’ve used, and that didn’t mean that I changed my plan of design, only the tool I’m using. In the end, this flag is probably my best work that I can do. I tried my best on creating the best work possible. There’s always room for improvement, but honestly improvement would mean restarting for me.
If your flag was actually used, what might its impact be?
A: I don’t know, depends on how everyone interpret the flag. There’s some hidden themes in there I think might cause some tension, but overall this flag is just for the betterment of Taiwan. It’s like “there’s no politics here, just good old fashioned patriotism”. That’s all there is here, history, culture, unity and nationalism, maybe if you interpret it the other way there could be deeper themes. I hope I can get an decent grade in this because I tried my hardest making the most simple design look the best it can be.
