Before reading this post, you should understand what is a “digital citizenship”, and here is a video that introduce what is a digital citizenship:

In the modern day, internet is a very convenience place for you to find informations and communicate to others, and as more people use it, it became a form of “country”, where everyone can online is a citizen, and everything you’ve done will be recorded down, even if you delete the post, it will still be somewhere. A country always have a set of rules. As a citizen of this network country, are you following the rules? In my research, I found many sources (included ) about being a good citizen, which make me came up with a combination of how to be a good digital citizen, shown below:

1. You should THINK before you “speak”: Before you do anything online, you should…

True: make sure your post is true before posting it our, just like you should not lie to your friends. You cannot lie in the real world, nor in this digital country.

Helpful: see if what you did is helpful to others, not just some useless stuffs.

Inspiring: check if your post is inspiring to others, this is kind of like the helpful one.

Necessary: make sure your post is necessary. You won’t say unnecessary things in the real world, nor online.

Kind: make sure it is not harming anyone. This is the most important one. It is banned to say any thing that hurt people. This is really important.

2. Respect everyone

Everyone can be a citizen of the digital world, they might have different culture, different languages… what we should do, is to respect. Not only respect others, respect yourself. You should present yourself positively and do what you can let your grandparents see.

3. Protect your/others properties

Don’t give away your informations online to anyone, and don’t try to peek others too. Get permission when using other people’s work and cite the sources. Be safe.

4. Standout when others got bullied

You should never stay silence when you see other got bullied online. You should either stop the people that are bulling or ask an adult to help solve this problem. You should also try helping the person that got bullied.
