TIEA Graphic Novel:

Laura Lee Gulledge created the character artist that meet with Paige, to show how a relationship can change a person. Paige meet a artist that remind her of her grandma, and show the artist her sketchbook. “You are like a dispenser of truth” (Gulledge) Relationship form by communicating. Artist communicate by drawing. Paige and the artist formed relationship when Paige show her sketchbook to the artist. Laura Lee Gulledge choose to create a relationship between Paige and the artist because it emphasized the change of Paige. This quote is the artist talking to Paige, which make Paige more confidence on her drawing. The “dispenser of truth” means the controller of truth, and the artist say this because Paige is very honest to herself, in her sketchbook. She first think herself as self absorbed, but after the artist say it, Paige think that it is fine to be like that. When people are looking at the sketchbook, they reflect on them, not Paige. Although the artist only appear for a short time, and people might forget this small character, but I think she is really important. This might be just a small relationship in Paige’s life, but it changed her. She is less confidence before she meet the artist, but now, she is more open. People might only notice about the friendship, the family and romantic about Paige, but I think this character is the one that change her the most.
