Perspective City Reflection
Elaina Wang
In this unit, we are learning about perspectives. We learned about ONE-POINT PERSPECTIVE and TWO-POINT PERSPECTIVE. For summative, we need to draw a city that include culture and need to be either one or two point perspective.
First I draw a HORIZON LINE, also known as the EYE LEVEL, which the viewer will see. I try to make all the HORIZONTAL LINE PARALLEL with the horizon line, and the VERTICAL LINE PERPENDICULAR to the horizon line. Then I draw the main buildings with some SHAPES and LINES. To make the artwork BALANCE, I use almost the same shapes on each side. To make the artwork more creative, I add some waterdrops to represent the people that live in there. After I finish drawing down the main building and people, I add the sign on each shop, to represent the culture of my “Kingdom Of Water” In the kingdom, the only can get things from the ocean, so there will be shop of fish, seaweed, and shrimp…etc. After all pencil sketching, I start painting. I use washing technique to draw the sky and the ocean. By wash technique, I can include MOVEMENT inside my drawing. The line can spread from the VANISHING POINT. I create the VOLUME to show the distance of the buildings. After using watercolor to paint, I use the color pencils to color the small part.
I choose one point perspective because I think it can EMPHASIS one point. I want the viewers to focus on the sun. I choose to create a city that is not real and float on the water because it can show the feeling of sun rise/set more clear. I include the COLOR blue for the most because it is on the sea. The color of the sun and the color of the sea create a strong CONTRAST.
I really like how my peers use color to make their building have the feeling of distance, and they try to make their artwork not look so empty. For self evaluation, I think I could improve on adding more culture inside the artwork, because only by including signs cannot fully explain the city. I think adding some dressing of the people can be a good way to show the culture. Also, I want to improve the craftsmanship because it really make the artwork look bad if you don’t have craftmanship. I think I did a good job on having all the horizontal parallel line with the horizon line, and the vertical line perpendicular to the horizon line.
