When He is Alone on Mars…

Have you ever thought about to create your own movie trailer? Well, over the past few months,  I’ve had the opportunity to work with one of the BMSA students that are currently studying in the United States and her name is Blessing Mulpinga. Our job is to make a movie trailer with a storyboard, scripts and shot list planned.  After the communication between us two with such long distance of Taiwan and United States. We have decided to create a movie trailer based on the idea of the movie “The Martian”. The reason that I want to use The Martian is that I feel like having scenes on the Mars will be an interesting topic and it will be a really special film from others. I started to write scripts and storyboard to my partner and she began shooting scenes for the trailers. She then finishes the trailer rapidly but it seems a high quality work for me. You will be able to see the trailer right at the bottom of this post!

After this movie trailer project, I found out that Blessing is a dedicated and hardworking student. She is willing to spend the right amount of time on this project and did a tremendous job on the movie trailer. She gives compliments about my works which gives me more confident about the topic that I had. She also shows positive attitudes during the whole project which give me the motivation to work harder. Somehow, I found out the most interesting part of this project will be to have the opportunity to work with someone that I will not be able to communicate face to face. It seems challenging but Blessing makes this look so easy. I am very grateful that she is willing to communicate and share her ideas with me. I’m very lucky that my partner is Blessing because unlike my other classmates some of them seem struggling to have trouble with communication with their partners. It seems that lack of communication made my classmates have to do more works and spend more extra efforts on this project. “Communication – The human connection is the key to personal and career success.” Paul J. Meyer. This tells us that better communication leads to a successful project.

Throughout the whole project,  I found out the most challenging part will be drawing the storyboard. First, doing an artwork is quite difficult for me. Honesty, I am really not a master of art drawing. I will have to think very hard in order to make my partner to understand the scenes and be able to let my partner easily understand my idea. However, my partner still misunderstands some of my ideas while going through the storyboard. However, my partner asked any questions that she had about the storyboard which easily solved the misunderstanding part.

In addition, this project makes me learn a lot of things that I’ve never thought about. I learn to be proactive to communicate with people that I had never met before. First, I was afraid that I might not get replied, but everything went pretty well after my partner responded. We went through this project as a team and finished up with little friendship. It was a great experience to work with people they I have never met before especially in a school in America. The works and the final product that we’ve done are down below. It will be great to give us especially myself some comments and feedbacks about our works.

Get to Know My Partner From BMSA

Blessing is my partner from United State that studied in BMSA. I’m very glad to meet her. After reading her blog, I found out she likes new technology and I guess that she likes Pokémon which I watched this cartoon when I was younger too. Also, I found out she is interested in CD which I think she might be interested in music too. In her flipboard, I saw one topic that I am interested in about teacher hiding in the ceiling to catch exam cheaters. I think we have something in common is that we both are interested in music and foods!!! It will be great if I can get to know more delicious foods from her!

Take Honesty More Seriously or Higher Grades?

“Test Make Differences on Grades.”

The power of test by Daphne Gray-Grant is licensed under CC BY-NC 2.0

Are you feeling enjoyable when you go to school? or do you go to school every day with painful and tired feeling? Do we go to school to learn or do we go to school just for getting the diploma to graduate from school? In this post, we will be focusing on how important grades are for students and it might cause them to use an inappropriate way in order to get higher grades in school.

Mostly, students will take grades very seriously especially in high school because from my research on ThoughtCo. about “Do My Grades Really Matter?”, High school grades matter most if students have hopes of going to college and grades were one of the big factors that colleges may consider when they are deciding rather accept or deny a student. By this result, most students will carefully take every graded assignment seriously in order to get a better college in the future years from their freshman year to their senior year.

However, some students were too eager to get good grades, so they try to use any ways in order to pass the test or finish the assignments perfectly such as getting assistance from others, copy others work, or even trade answers with each other. By using those ways, students might get an extremely perfect score but they had already violated the policy called the “academic dishonesty policy”.

The academic dishonesty policy is a policy in school that students did any dishonest or unfair action on their any academic works. It included plagiarism, cheating, copying, lying, tampering, or having any assistance from any other person. It was also saved in our school‘s high school handbook, on Page 33. However, there’s also a policy that kept students away from cheating, plagiarism…etc, and it was also known as the academic honesty policy. From my research on the website University of Georgia about academic honesty policy. The deeper and more briefly meaning of this policy is meant to be performing all academic work without plagiarism, cheating, lying, tampering, stealing, giving or receiving unauthorized assistance from any other person, or using any source of information that is not common knowledge without properly acknowledging the source. By this policy, students will not be able to get a higher score by some inappropriate ways.

From my perspective on being a student, I hope I will get good grades in every assignment and I know that it’s hard to be that successful and perfect in an appropriate way. By knowing this, the only thing we can do is to put the best effort in every assignment but don’t expect it to be all straight A. Besides that, I think the main purpose of study is not just for getting a good grade, it’s more like being more relax and un-pressured while learning and always have a great attitude to learn more stuff during the school life of your life career.

Why is My Paper in Your Hand?

So… this is a short movie about the academic honesty and dishonesty that I work with my partner Steven. We made a short story in the movie that we film in our school that we think it can also make readers have a better understanding of the policy. This video is going show about a person copying works from others but got caught by the person immediately. From this video, I had learned about communication is a very important part when doing group works. Only if you communicate with partners, it will help to lead the team to have a final and best decision.

How important is the caption of a post to you? I guess it’s important to you and originally it should be very important to you when you are the author of the post and want to get others attention. In this post, we will be focusing on the caption, image selection and the attribution of the images to help to make a better post.

A caption of a post can really change the amount of people that will really view about your post. From my opinion, an interesting andspecial caption will be very beneficial to the post. Also, mostly readers will see the caption before they actually read about the post so by this habit, having a great and unique caption is an important part of the post. From my research on the website “Northwest Scholastic Press”, I found out that captions that tell and intrigue readers will be a great caption to have. Also don’t start the caption word with a, an, the or names. A better caption can be made that is meaningful or like having a story behind it.

Images are another main point and also very attracted in a post. Based on my research on the website “Orbit Media Studios”. Images on the blog will directly affect shares. Posts with images will be shared more than posts that has not included images. From what I think,  Images can give readers a better interest about the post. Readers will get attracted to the images even before seeing the caption of the posts. I think having an appropriate, great, comfortable and beneficial image will be more important than the caption of the post.

Also, if you get a great images from others especially on the internet, make sure to give them credits. Having a clear citation should also be included in the post. Based on the research on the website “creative commons”about how to give attribution. It should include the title, author, sources, and licenses for a perfect attribution.

Be Honest, or Not?

There’s a policy in school that keeps students’ academic work without plagiarism, cheating, copying, lying, tampering, or having any assistance from any other person. Which most of the students might feel painful while hearing about this policy. The policy is called the Academic Honesty Policy. Are you familiar with this? or are you also the one who dislikes about this policy during your school life?

If you had done those improper things during your assignments, it led to the opposite policy of academic honesty policy: Academic Dishonesty Policy. It’s a policy that keeps any type of cheating that occurs in relation to a formal academic exercise. It’s a policy for students that had lied or cheating during any exams or assignments. This policy is mostly in every level of educations, from elementary school to university. It keeps people away from cheating and copying works from others.

I think there’s a type of assignment that is hard for the teacher to know did the students did the improper things during the assignments. “Group work”, it is difficult to grade by each person because teachers don’t really know each part of the work was completed by who. One person might do everything for the whole group or maybe works are divided equally in a group which it should be the right thing to do in a group assignment. This problem might lead to a sense of academic dishonesty. Based on my research on the website of University of Toronto about academic integrity, students are normally encouraged to study in groups or work with peers to improve their skill of being in a team. However, sharing work without author acknowledgment can create the risk of students providing or receiving unauthorized aid and the risk of honest work falling into the wrong hands.

There’s a quote that I think is valuable for everyone to know: “Tell a lie once and all your truth become questionable.” Don’t even try to tell a lie first because if others find out it’s a lie, it’s hard to make others to trust you and your opinions again. Honesty shouldn’t just be a thing happen in your school life, it should be everywhere during your life time. Be sure, to be honest to anyone and also be respectful to everyone.

Am I The Only One Got Tagged?!

The Internet makes everything different from before, and it has been positive and negative things going on at the same time. So what the digital presence? Basically, it means that you own a space on the internet and how you did you present yourself on there. Maybe you should think about did you ever post something inappropriate or saying something negative on the internet. Did you ever think about the consequences after you post it?

I think a big issue on the internet that might make innocent people have inappropriate posts on their profile even though they refused to have it. It’s about “tagging” someone on the internet. The person who tags you might be your friends or it might be an anonymous person that you don’t even know. When the person got tagged on a post, the post will be on his/her timeline or profile which can be directed affect the person. If you are the person that are tagging someone else, think about that if you are the one who got tagged, will you feel comfortable or interesting about it? Is it appropriate? Should I really tag that person?

For conclusion, when being on the internet. Be aware of the posts and also the comments. Be sure you represent yourself well up there. Also, tags are not required on the internet, tag only when you think it will surely be helpful or the things that you really want to share with no matter your friends or just public. Check your web every period of time, make sure you had only positive and appropriate things in in your web. Negative things might effect directed your reputation or change how other people look at you. Delete or cancel everything negative that might cause damage to you on your web. It can protect you and make a better job while you are having a digital presence.

Handbooks Are Important? (KAS VS MAK & MAC)

My research is focusing on the international schools from Taiwan and I have researched about three of the international school which is KAS(Kaohsiung American School), MAK (Morrison Academy Kaohsiung), and AST(American School of Taichung). Based on my research, MAK is a Christian school which is a most likely a religious school. They have a special section for the Bibles in their handbook. Their students are required to have Bible classes during the semester and each one of the students will get a personal Bible from the school. However, KAS and AST are a non-religious school so both schools had not required classes about religious or having religious items.  Also, only MAK had required uniforms for students, both KAS and AST had not required uniforms for students, but all school had required students to wear proper clothing such as KAS handbook page, 24  “Wear shoes that are appropriate for school”. AST handbook page. 10 “Clothing, hair styles, and color, or jewelry that detract from the learning environment are not in the spirit of the dress code.”

I think the most similar thing in all three handbooks is the safety section. All three school take the safety of students and faculties no matter on or off-campus in a very serious position. Especially students, all three school have mentioned about supervision and had clearly explained the location that has been supervised.  KAS has even more information about safety than the other 2 schools, included the emergency procedures, fire or emergency evacuation plan, earthquake emergency plan, and school cancellation.  The other similarities that  All three schools are all taking English as the first priority. It’s the another most common rules in all three schools. English will be the first language to speak in all the three school that I had researched.

Based on my research, the most special thing about KAS handbook was that KAS was the only school that has mentioned about recycling. It makes KAS become more environmentally friendly than other schools. MAK is a religious school which makes them special by believing God and having related things about Bible. AST handbook is the only handbook that has 2 versions of languages I had researched. After the original English version handbook, it had added Mandarin version.

For conclusion, every school has written rules they think is beneficial for their own in the handbook and expect students to follow them. I believe those rules can be helpful and useful. If students do follow those rules, the school can be a very safe place to learn.

Ready for Grade 9!

I am becoming 9th grade in the year of 2017-18! Seriously, I am a little bit nervous about the new life in my high school career. It might get very challenging for me but I hope everything will be fine in my first year of high school. My goals for grade 9 are more like feeling more comfortable in high school and also try hard on every subject to see which subject might be the most difficult one for me.

My another goals for grade 9 is about getting into school’s sports team, I like to play sports very much and wish I could play for my school and represent my school to go out and compete with other school’s sports teams. It will be great if I’m in the school’s sports team during my freshman year.

I think a large difference between middle school and high school is the lunch schedule. In our school, middle school usually eat lunch before high school. Now, I become a high schooler so we eat lunch later than we did in middle school. I think this is a big difference from middle school to high school because I always get hungry at the wrong time!
