End-of-Semester CAS 2

Officially done with my junior year and looking forward to my senior year which will also be my final year as a high school student. After then, I will be graduated and everyone will be heading to different places to pursue their unexplored future. This year has been exceptional not just for me individually but for the whole world. Lots of challenges that occurred this year were not faced in the past few years which have set as some significant struggles for people. Students weren’t an exception either. The major coronavirus pandemic has made a major impact on students, especially in academics that disrupt the common agenda that was followed in the past. This causes a major impact on students to adjust themselves in order to face this year’s unique situation. Despite such a rare condition, we, in Taiwan, were still able to operate quite normally compare to other countries, and fortunately, our CAS program is able to continue without the intervention of the pandemic. I am satisfied with my accomplishments to be able to maintain the progress of CAS during this semester and demonstrate the perseverance to be able to sustain in this exclusive situation of this year.

In this semester, I still believe time management is still the biggest task in CAS. Being an IB student requires a lot of dedication into multiple subjects which makes the skill of time management even more significant. Moreover, especially having the TOK presentation being presented for the first-ever closer to the end of the semester, it requires me to dedicate more to this course than ever which I have to manage my time quite differently from there. I am glad that I get to manage my time between CAS and academics just quite all right so that I was able to construct two posts each month that act as pieces of evidence to demonstrate my involvement in CAS each month but also maintains my academic performance in an accepted range.  This semester, I have tried to formulate long-term CAS, for example, the basketball improvement proposal that took me more than 2 months from researching to physically practicing it with my peers in the gym. While looking back into the pieces of evidence for this specific CAS, I feel a strong sense of achievement to be able to progress starting from just researching to actually accomplishing something from my own. I learned to approach things that I have never tried before, in this case, to attempt specific skills that I have not yet done in basketball. I feel thorough to be able to solidly complete a goal that I have attentively managed and planned.

Besides, I have started the CAS project with my partner Simon during the time towards the end of the semester. Our goal of the project is to promote Indoor fitness exercise which has a strong relation to our global world that the pandemic has locked down the majority of places and indoor exercising is one of the best ways to continue working out during this pandemic. The project is still progressing and we will continue to upload our videos to an Instagram account that we have created just for this project. Working on to this point, I think overall we did a great job and we are on track to our progress. The researching part and acting part are done well at this point and we have effectively accomplished things as a team instead of an individual. We communicate well and work collaboratively but also clear about the parts each of us is responsible for. I am confident in looking forward to the product of this project.

Overall, I aimed to maintain a balance of strand in all my CAS but I have to put additional effort into the “service” part of CAS. I will be looking for more opportunities that fulfill the requirement of the service part of CAS in the next year. Other than that, I believe I did a pretty decent job in CAS and in this course. I am very glad to be recognized by the teacher to receive the IBDP TOK award at the end of the year. It is quite surprising for me especially when there are so many talented students in our school each with different impressive talents. Looking forward to more special experiences of TOK in my senior year!

Starting with CAS Project – Indoor Fitness

As summer vacation arrived, Simon and I begin to start out our cooperative CAS project which is about promoting indoor fitness to get exercise going during this worldwide pandemic crisis. We each made videos and post them up on an Instagram account that serve the purpose to promote indoor fitness created by us. I am responsible for the videos about “push-ups” and I decided to make 2 different levels of push up. The first one is the intermediate push up that people normally do for a workout. The second one is an advanced push up that requires a lot more muscles in order to fulfill this push up because it is a “clapping push-ups”. Filming these clips actually uses up more effort than I already thought because I re-film some of the clips to make sure that I am doing it correctly. I did approximately a total of 100 push up just that day which is an amount way beyond what I originally do each day. It was a unique experience and we will be posting more videos in the following weeks. Here are the videos for the 2 different levels push-up I made
