Students have just started Unit 4: Divisibility. Here are some resources located in the Google Drive in the Grade 5C Shared Things folder.
Tessellations
In geometry, we were learning about creating tessellation designs. A tessellation is a repeated pattern with no gaps or overlaps. Below is an example of Dora’s tessellation. She used creativity to create her own shape and she made a tessellation with that shape.
Mandalas in Geometry
In our geometry unit, students learned to get comfortable using the compass by creating Mandala designs. I am very proud of their work. This one was created by Clare:
Unit 3 Resources
The students have started Unit 3 in Everydaymath: Geometry Explorations. Here are some resources that students can find in their Google Drive folders: Grade 5C Shared Things > Math > Unit 3 > Resources
Building Molecules
In science students were learning about molecules. They got to build different molecules. We also used an APP on the iPad called Nova Elements in which they could explore more about how atoms are formed.
Atoms and Molecules of Matter
We have been learning about matter in science. At the moment we are learning how different atoms can join together to make molecules which make up all matter. Bill Nye is here explaining the basics of matter: liquid, solid, and gas – the 3 main states of matter.
Polygon Song
Unit 3 in math is focused on Geometry. This song is very basic, but it’s a little catchy. If you sing along, you can review the names of different polygons.
THINK Before You Post
In class, we have been learning about being responsible when using the internet. We spoke about appropriate and inappropriate times to chat and we also spoke about being responsible anytime we write something on the internet. Here is a video we made with Amy Tai and Kevin Hsu:
Matter Vocabulary
Now we will begin to learn about MATTER. Below is the vocabulary needed in this unit. Students can also look in the Grade 5C Shared Things folder under Science > Matter to find more information and activities for this unit.
The Scientific Method
Our class just finished learning about the scientific method – the way scientists gather data to prove a hypothesis or to find out new information about something. The students created posters to show their understanding of this process. Here are a few examples:
