Fun in Math

Students use math games to reinforce a skill or mathematical knowledge. In this video, students are playing Landmark Shark in which they practice finding the Mean, Median, and Mode in a set of data:

Bridge Project

In science class we did an experiment to see which type of bridge would be the strongest design. Read Maggie’s report to see what happened: This is a movie I made about creating a bridge and you can even see the competition. We found out that Clare’s bridge was the strongest. She used the Howe […]

Bridge Building Competition

I am so proud of my 5th grade students. Each student created their own bridge out of balsa wood to meet expectations. They did a great job! Here is a short video that displays the process of finding out which bridge is the strongest:

Fraction Video

In Math we are learning about fractions. One skill is how to change fractions to mixed numbers and mixed numbers to fractions. The students created videos explaining how to do this skill. Here is an example from Maggie, Kevin and Devin. You need to click on the link: Fraction Video

Tessellations

In geometry, we were learning about creating tessellation designs. A tessellation is a repeated pattern with no gaps or overlaps. Below is an example of Dora’s tessellation. She used creativity to create her own shape and she made a tessellation with that shape.
