In the MYP, subject group objectives correspond to assessment criteria. In science, there are four criteria:

Criterion A: Knowing and Understanding
Criterion B: Inquiring and Designing
Criterion C: Processing and Evaluating
Criterion D: Reflecting on the Impacts of Science

Each objective has eight possible achievement levels. Students will practice these objectives in class and then will need to demonstrate their abilities through different assessment tasks. Below are the general assessment objectives and the descriptors for MYP Science Year 1 students. More details will be provided with the specific summative assessment task; however, these are the general descriptors to be used throughout the year:
