The Frustration of Lies
Quick Summary of the Blog Post (IF YOU DON’T WANT TO READ THE WHOLE BLOG POST):
- In the book “The Crucibles”, Abigail Williams told lies about Elizabeth Proctor.
- In the book “Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets”, Tom Riddle told lies about Rubeus Hagrid.
- Both liars escaped in the stories, while the innocent people didn’t.
Have you ever felt frustration about rumors and gossips that someone tells and everyone else believes it?
The Crucibles – Arthur Miller
In the book The Crucibles, one of the main character, Abigail Williams, who once worked as a servant for the Proctor family before, secretly had an affair with John Proctor. This, of course, infuriated Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctor’s wife who fired her after finding out the secret. As a result, Abigail seeked revenge by telling lies about Elizabeth being a witch and practicing witchcraft in the woods. The whole town believed in Abigail’s lie which caused Elizabeth Proctor to be quite frustrated about this whole situation.
Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets – J.K. Rowling
Elizabeth Proctor’s situation reminded me of a book that I read a few years ago, Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets, by J.K. Rowling. In it, one of the important characters, Rubeus Hagrid, attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In Hagrid’s third year in the school, he was framed by an evil witch, Tom Riddle, for the crime of opening the Chamber of Secrets and using his pet Acromantula (a giant spider) to attack several muggles-students (witches that have normal parents, not witches) and ended up killing one of them. Rubeus Hagrid, it turns out, didn’t kill or attack anyone at Hogwarts. After this event, the majorities of the students at the school didn’t believe in Hagrid, causing him to be quite frustrated.
Conclusion
In conclusion, both of these characters, Elizabeth Proctor and Rubeus Hagrid faced similar problems. Both Abigail Williams and Tom Riddle were the characters who caused the problem. The two of their reasons for getting Elizabeth and Hagrid in trouble is because of personal reasons. Everyone in the two stories believed the false information about Elizabeth and Hagrid even though they were both completely innocent. This made them hugely irritated, placing Elizabeth and Hagrid in very difficult situations trying to explain what was actually happening, to people who wouldn’t believe them.
Lies can destroy and hurt people’s reputations.
