This movie is about a 13 years old boy Greg, his middle school life, and his family life. In the beginning, Rodrick did a prank to his younger brother, Greg. This is a stereotype because most people think that older brother would bully younger brother and has more power. Even in some countries, older brothers and sisters have higher position in the family than younger siblings. The oldest son has the highest position and power in most Asia society.

After this scene, Greg said: “Okay, first of all, let me get something straight. This is a journal, not a diary.” This is also an interesting stereotype because people think that diary are for girls, and journal are for boys. The main character Greg doesn’t want to look like “girl”. Most boys are afraid to look like girls.

Then Greg starts introducing his best friend Rowley. He said: “Rowley doesn’t quite understand the concept of growing up”. Then the movie shows Rowley is playing in ball pits with small kids. This is a stereotype because people think that growing up should not be childish. Teenagers should be cool not playing with younger kids. It shows a clip of Rowley is riding a pink girly bike. This is a stereotype because boys should like cool stuffs, not cute stuffs. Pink is girl’s color, not boy’s. Rowley is a simple mind and childish boy. Sometimes his friends tease him because Rowley is not a cool boy.

After this scene, Greg is saying that middle school is all about population. Most teenagers would like be the popular one and they care peer pressure very much. In this movie, Greg did a lot of things to get friends’ attention and tried to be the most popular one.

Patty is a girl who is a contrast to Rowley. She is very aggressive and wants to defeat boys. She is not like most girls. She is wrestling with Greg. Then in the end, Patty wins Greg. Patty always teases Greg, because she thought Greg is not as brave as her.
