Basketball was created by Dr. James Naismith in 1891 for the football players to practice during winter. There weren’t lots of rules during that time, Dr. Naismith only had 13 basic rules. Each team had 9 players, so the total was 18 people on the court. The game consisted of peach baskets nailed to the wall on each side of the gym and a soccer like ball. The objective was to throw the ball into the fruit baskets. After playing a long time, they simply named this sport basketball. (Basket+ball=Basketball)

In modern basketball, there are 10 players on the court playing. Each team sends out 5 players to play on the court. Nowadays, basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world. There are about 100 rules in basketball, about 50 rules you won’t know. To count the points is very easy. If the shot is made inside the three point line then it’s two points. If the shot is made outside of the three point line, then it’s 3 points. Violations are called fouls and free throws are usually awarded to an offensive player who was shooting the ball and got fouled.

My favourite NBA team is Oklahoma City Thunder. I like this team a lot because all of the players in Thunder work as a team really well. I like Kevin Durant (Number 35). He had a difficult start to his career because his coach, who believed in his abilities to be an NBA player, passed away while Kevin was playing an important match. I also like Russell Westbrook (Number 0) he also worked very hard just like Kevin Durant. I really hope that Oklahoma City Thunder can go to the NBA finals and also win the final too.
