Change It, Don’t Complain!
“If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. Don’t complain.” ~ Maya Angelou
I totally agree with the quote, because you can’t change everything, so you must change your attitude. There are things that we can’t change like time, death, illness, and gender, but there are things that we can change like feelings, personal ways and attitudes. For example, time is like money, once you spend it you can’t get it back. It’s your choice how to spend it. If you make the wrong choice you will feel frustrated. If you can’t change a situation, what can you change? You can change your attitude by accepting what has happened, don’t complain because that will not fix anything.
This connects to Tom Matthews, a professor at a university. He had a meeting in LA, so he took a flight there, but the meeting was cancelled so he was angry and frustrated about wasting time for the meeting, but rather than complaining , Tom Matthews used the free time to tour the city.
I feel good about the quote, I learn to change my attitude or situations into something positive, that makes us feel good. By feeling good we can spread happiness to other people. For example my mom, my aunts family and me went to an amusement park this summer. While we were driving to the amusement park it started to rain. So we couldn’t go on the rides. My mom and my aunt are very angry because we drove 1 hour and 30 minutes to there. But then I said “It was ok, we can’t do anything about the weather, let’s rather wear raincoat.” My positive feelings made them feel better. I had a great day.
I would say it this way: Change it if you can, if you can’t change it, accept in a positive way, but don’t complain. In life, there are conditions we must face, sometimes we have the ability to adjust them and sometimes not. Do the best to change the conditions, but if you can’t change it, be positive.
I would like to use the famous musician, Beethoven as an example, even though he was deaf he still didn’t give up music. He found out a way to “hear” music through vibrations to hear the sound of the notes. So even though he couldn’t change being deaf, his positive attitude helped him to keep make good music until he died.
In conclusion, I still agree with this quote because all we really need is positive thinking and a change will always happen, even if we can’t change the situation, we can still change ourselves.
