Relationship & Identity Everyone Deserves Love

In this unit, we learned about relationship & identity, we learned about what makes a healthy relationship and what makes an unhealthy relationship, we learned how to establish a healthy relationship and how does a relationship affect us. I chose to create a graphic novel to demonstrate what I learned throughout this unit, my graphic novel demonstrates both the healthy relationship and unhealthy relationship and it shows how the main character overcomes those obstacles.

We also did TIEA for this unit, we used TIEA to explain the relationship between the main character and other people and how it affects the main character. for the first TIEA, I explained how Jin’s relationship with Wei-Chen affects his acts, thoughts, and personality. In the second TIEA, which is Graphic Novel Illustrator TIEA, I explained how does the image contribute to the novel itself, how it allows the readers to prepare for the rest, and how it adds meanings to the novel.

Jin’s relationship with Wei-Chen Sun

In American Born Chinese, the author Gene Luen Yang transforms a stereotypical Chinese boy who lost his self-confidence to a mature teenager who has built up his self-confidence. Wei-Chen’s arrival once made Jin wants to beat him up before knowing his personalities and make connection with him. However, Wei-Chen’s arrival actually built up Jin’s self-confidence by the connection between their personal backgrounds and always supporting Jin, that caused Jin to reflect on his previous behavior and start treating Wei like a brother.  “You’re in America, Speak English.” “Something made me want to beat him up.” (36-38) “Over the next few months, Wei-Chen became my best friend.” ( 40) “My first day in school here I meet Jin from then I know everything’s okay, he treat me like a little brother.” (102) can see how Jin’s behavior on Wei-Chen changed due to the connection between them,, Wei-Chen told Amelia that Jin treated him like a little brother and always being supportive friend, at first, from both textual evidence and visual evidence, it shows that Jin didn’t want to associate with Wei-Chen because of his race, he knew people would not associate with Asians in this school. Jin Wang forced Wei to speak English, trying to embarrass him intentionally, but since Wei had his robot toy out, it led Jin consider his personal background, he had similar favours, similar personal background, similar situation as Wei, all these similarities connected both people and eventually established a healthy relationship. After the connection, they became best friends, Jin’s behavior has changed a lot throughout this time, he was being more supportive and he also felt stronger spiritually because he had Wei has one of the best friends.

In American Born Chinese, Gene Luen Yang inspired the audience to find their true identity by letting monk witnessing an attack which inspired the monkey to find his own identity. As the monk got stabbed by the demons, the monkey king described his identity as “the supper of two demons.” However, as the demons start burning the monk, it allows the monkey king to connect his personal background with the monk which inspired him to find his own true identity. The monk gets stabbed by the two demons and gets burned afterward, it reminds the monkey king about his own identity. The monkey king breaks out from the mountain and saves his master (Page, 149, 150) The monkey king could have broken out from the mountain. However, he couldn’t find his true identity until he met the monk, who the monkey called him the master afterward because the monk was the person who redefined his true identity. The monk was stabbed by the two demons which stimulated the monkey by reminding his own personal background to break out from the mountain, because the monk encountered the similar situation as the monkey king, his identity was defined by the demons, since the monkey king’s identity was also defined by Tze-Yo-Tzuh, the person who trapped him under the stone, it reminded the monkey king about his current situation which made him want to break out, the true identity of the monkey king is not an actual king, his true identity, is a guardian of the Master. This part impacted the audience to find our true identities, to meet the “master” who brings the true identity back to our life.

We have done 4 discussions in total, we did three discussions in order to prepare for the final discussion, throughout the discussion, we mainly focused on How do other people affect the main character and how does the main character affect other characters, even though we didn’t read the same books, we still connected each other by discussing more general topics instead of too specific topics, we also found similarities in our book which made the discussion went well. I’d made three preparations for my discussion, the first one and the second one have the same questions. However, questions in the last preparation are more likely to be a guide for us to conclude about the story.

Language Art 15 Mins Of Fame Reflection

In this unit, we explored poetry, we have done many activities that are related to poetry, all of them allowed us to improve on particular areas related to poetry, each activity has its purpose. overall, I think improved a lot at performing the poem through this unit, I have become more confident in this performance compared to my flipgrid video. Also, I learned a lot of poetic devices by analyzing and annotating poems. we also further develop our writing skills, such as applying techniques to that we learned from other poems. Activities we have done over this unit:

  1. Poem Annotation
  2. Creating our own poems
  3. Performance FlipGrid/Class
  4. TIEA
  5. Compare and Contrast

I learned a lot more poetic devices from analyzing poems, some of them are also used in my own poems, I also learned some techniques in writing poems, such as impacting the audience by emotions. etc, so in overall, I think that annotating poems helped me the most in the field of poetry. I learned how to perform well and naturally from performing our poems on fligrid and in front of the class, we practiced performing poems by recording ourselves and upload the video to flipgrid, which allowed the students to reflect and see where to improve next time. my biggest issue was the movements and I didn’t show emotions in the video, my movements are no naturally presented and I literally read off the script. However, for the final performance, I think I have done a better job than last time because I showed the movements and I have become more confident in front of the audience.

Based on learner profile, I think I demonstrated being Reflective and I was being a Risk Taker, I reflected on poetry video and tried to improve, I was being a risk taker because I tried to be more confident on the stage so I could present my poem more naturally. From my performance, I didn’t do great but I can see the improvement I’ve made throughout this unit, therefore, I think the greatest skill I learned from this unit is performing. This skill can be applied to every subject, such as presenting an essay, It could be used at every place, performing confidently also allow us to become a risk taker, willing to try something new or overcome our fears.

Poetry Unit:15 Mins Of Fame Summative

In this unit, we explored poetry unit, learning how to become a “poet”, how to analyze a poem, and how to perform a poem. poetry is a way to express emotions, in this unit, we had written few poems based on our current feelings because the style and topic of our poems are not limited. Also, we had made poems that follow the styles of other poems. analyzing poems was also a part of this unit, we analyze its poetic devices, the author’s mood and how it impacts the audience.etc analyzing poems allow us to understand the poem deeper, therefore, we can create a good poem using the techniques we learned from the analyzing poems. for performing the poems we had written, we record ourselves and upload it to flipgrid which allowed us to improve on performing poems in front of the class. The first thing we had done is the analyzing the poems, the first poem chosen is “Don’t quit” by Ann Nixon, the author chooses to be emotional to inspire the audience, there are also many poetic devices used in this poem, such as repetition and rhyme which emphasize the content. the second poem is “Failure doesn’t mean you are a failure” by Rehana Mohammadi, in the poem “Failure doesn’t mean you are a failure”, the author chooses to be calmer, restoring the reader’s confidence to challenges.

TIEA:

After the annotation, we analyzed the poem more specifically on its poetic devices using TIEA in which “T” stands for the topic sentence, “I” stands for Introduction to evidence, “E” stands for evidence and “A” stands for analysis.
TIEA: “Don’t Quit” by Ann Nixon:
Topic sentence: In “Don’t Quit”, the author Ann Nixon uses the technique of repetition in the first stanza to starts with a more powerful and inspirational introduction to the audience.
Introduction: The author uses “when”repeatedly in the first stanza to emphasize the message she wants to spread through this, the “when” she used are conjunction words to connect what people do to pull you down or what obstacles you would face before you succeed, she chooses to say something repeatedly and emotionally to inspire the audience.
Evidence: “When people pull you down, as they often will./When the battle you’re fighting is all uphill./When the funds are low and the debts are high.” (1-3)
Analysis: The message of what the author wants to spread through this poem is to keep on working something we’ve been waiting for or working hard for, do not quit until we accomplished something, in the first stanza, the author uses repetition to emphasize the introduction in order starts with a strong introduction since introduction and the conclusion would affect the audience the most. The first stanza tells the readers there are many obstacles we have face, convincing the readers to accept the truth, the author gives a list of what to face and how to face them, it tells the audience that quitting is not how people would face the uphills and challenges, take a deep breath, or take a brief rest before we keep moving on.

TIEA: “Failure Doesn’t Mean You’re A Failure” Rihanna Mohammadi:
Topic sentence: In the poem “Failure doesn’t mean you are a failure by Rehana Mohammadi, the author uses the technique of repetition and be less emotional to show the readers how important is “failure” and allow the reader to accept that failure is a process of success.
Introduction: The author chooses to be calmed and keeps telling the readers that failure will become a process and it will always exist in our lives. However, it doesn’t mean we are a failure even though we fail.
Evidence: “Failure doesn’t mean you are a failure, It does mean you haven’t succeeded yet./ Failure doesn’t mean God has abandoned you, it does mean he has a better way.” (1,10)
Analysis: In the poem “Failure doesn’t mean you are a failure” the author Rehana Mohammadi tries to restore the reader’s faith by constantly telling them failure doesn’t mean they are a failure calmly, the effect of saying this repeatedly allows the reader to be confident enough to face anything failures existed in their lives. The author chooses to be calmed because is trying to give the readers faith and confidence instead of being too inspirational, that also helps the readers to be calmed, also, it will make the readers reflect on themselves. being confidence in ourselves is what we should do before succeed, this is the message of what the author wants to spread through this poem.

Compare&Contrast:

For the final assignment, we analyzed the poems by comparing them and see how they are similar and different in Poetic devices, mood, messages.etc

Similarities: In “Don’t Quit” by Ann Nixon and “Failure doesn’t mean you are a failure by Rehana Mohammadi, both authors used a lot of same techniques since the style of the poem was chosen to be inspirational in both poems, both authors choose to use the technique of repetition which emphasize the message they want to spread through the poem, repetition is the main technique used in both poems, it is due to the style of the poems, because both of them are inspirational which means saying something repeatedly would be very helpful for impacting the audience in an inspirational poem. In the poem “Don’t Quit” by Ann Nixon, the author uses repetition at the beginning of the poem in order to make a powerful introduction since this makes the readers become more emotional, it has better effects to the audience. When people pull you down, as they often will. /When the battle you’re fighting is all uphill. /When the funds are low and debts are high.” (1-3) Notice how the author use the word “when” repeatedly, the author gives the audience a list which tells them the challenges in our lives. In the second poem “Failure doesn’t mean you are a failure” by Rehana Mohammadi, the author also used repetition for the whole poem, the author uses “Failure doesn’t mean” and “it does mean” repeatedly in the poem to make contrast which makes the poem to be more inspirational, this gives the readers confidence, allowing them to be confident enough. “Failure doesn’t mean you are a failure, it does mean you haven’t succeeded yet./ Failure doesn’t mean you haven’t accomplished something, it does mean you have learned something./ Failure doesn’t mean you’ve been a fool, it does mean you have a lot of faith” (1-3) Both poems start with repetition at the beginning of the poem and both introductions are powerful and inspirational. However, the way they inspire the audience is different.

Differences: The way they influence the audience are different even though both poems are similar in style and technique, the speaker’s tone in these two poems are completely different, in the poem “Don’t Quit” the speaker’s mood is calmed at the beginning. However, as it goes further, the speaker becomes more emotional, in the end, the speaker ends up with telling the readers to shout with her “I will not quit” “When people pull you down, as they often will./ Stop and rest and take a deep breath, but don’t you quit. /When life presses you down a bit, stand up and shout “I will not quit!” (1, 11 ,23) At the beginning, the speaker seems calmed, we can see that the speaker’s tone changes as she reads, we can see the change in mood by referring to the word “but” at line 11, the speaker’s mood has changed to really emotional since then, the reader’s mood would also change as the speaker changes, the difference between the first poem and the second one is that the first one is I personally think that the first poem is more inspirational since it is more emotional. However, the second one seems more calmed and it inspires the readers by restoring their faith. “Failure doesn’t mean you will never make it, it does mean it will take longer. / Failure doesn’t mean God has abandoned you, it does mean he has a better way.”(9-10 stanza, last 2 stanzas) From these 2 poems, we can see how both authors end the poem differently, one ends up emotionally and the other one ends calmly. However, I think both ways have good effects to the audience, speaking emotionally makes the reader feel the same way as the author wants them to fell, so the readers would be affected by the author easier than speaking calmly because it is more powerful which I personally think it would affect the readers more. However, speaking logically and calmly is also effective to the audience because it makes the readers think and reflect on themselves.

Inspirational Poems:

After analyzing the poems, we created inspirational poems based on the style used in the other poem. I first poem written is named “Fears” it inspires the audience to overcome fears, 7 poetic devices are used in this poem.

Fears

Look into your fears,

What do you see?

Losing your career,

Failing into sea.

Your fear does not walk,

Your fear does not talk.

Like a lashing rain,

Its effect does not harm.

Fear is a dark room,

Causing doubt,

Pitch Black,

And dead silent,

But nothing hurts you!

Fear wants you,

Fear shouts at you.

But don’t be afraid!

It can’t harm you!

Face to your fear!

Shouts at your fear!

Tell them:

“I’m not afraid!”

Inspirational poem video slideshow:

The slideshow is for the final performance, we will be presenting our poems in front of the whole class with autoplay video slideshow.

FlipGrid:

For performing the poem, as I had mentioned, we recorded ourselves and upload it to flipgrid, it encouraged us to overcome “awkwardness” and perform the poem in front of the class which I personally think it is really helpful:

Inspirational Poem #2:

My second poem is about hope and dream, in this poem, I use 5 senses to describe my dreams.

Dream

I have a dream, a dream that never comes true,

I have a hope, a hope that is for me and everyone.

My hope feels like air, and it also looks like air,

But it is everywhere, just like air.

My hope sounds like a dream, it sounds so sweet

My hope smells like a dream, it smells so sweet

My hope tastes like a dream, it tastes so sweet.

But it never comes true,

Becuase everyone, everyone fight for their dreams.

Language Arts Poetry Unit

In this unit, we learned about poetry, analyzing and writing are the two main focus of this unit, we annotated 5 poems, each poem has its own particular features and poetic devices, every poem is different.

If I were in Charge of the world: The first poem was if I were in charge of the world, the author used a lot of repetition in the poem and breaks the repetition at the last paragraph which is one of the most-seen technique used in poems. for the next assignment, we had to write a poem based on the poetic devices from this poem, I chose to write about “If I were you” the “you” means a person (a person I know) who harms himself a lot because he is a man with depression. Next, we created photostory, the purpose of creating photostory is to create more feelings and emotions.

If I were you

If I were you,

I would stop harming myself,

Living in remorse,

Wasting time.

If I were you,

I would make myself happier,

Without medical treatments,

And make some trustworthy friends.

If I were you,

I would find a way to relieve stress,

Instead of harming myself,

Maybe harming yourself is a way.

But it makes others stress.

If I were you…

I can’t be you,

Can you hear me,

I can’t be you,

Be yourself and choose wisely.

Where I’m from: The poem “Where I’m from” is a look back to the author’s childhood, she clarifies her identity as she is looking back to her childhood, each object has its own special meaning to the author because her identity is made up of all these objects mentioned in the poem. my annotation explains each object’s meaning based on my opinion. I referred the poem “Where I’m from” as a template and wrote a poem named “Who am I” the poem shows the speaker cannot truly discover himself and he has no life goals because he doesn’t know his life direction. The poem also shows his religious background as the poem “Where I’m from” does.

Who am I?

I know I’m flesh and bones,

Covered from head to toes.

But who am I?

I know I was created by God,

And there’s no evil and black blood.

I know I’m still a child,

Who spends so much time on basketball,

I know I’m a heart,

I know I’m a soul.

But I still can’t truly discover myself,

I don’t know my purpose,

And I don’t know my direction,

I’m still living in confusion,

But If you ask me who I am,

I would just tell you,

I am me.

Ode to Family Photographs: “Ode to family photographs” is also a look back to the author’s childhood, the poem makes the reader feels like the author is looking back to his childhood as he is looking at his old photos taken by his mom, even though her mom was never good at taking pictures, he still liked it since those photos took him back to his childhood, the author also used the technique of repetition, the speaker describes the pictures one by one. I made a poem named “Ode to My Sweet Memories” it is also looking back to my childhood, but it’s based on a particular time, the time period is set to 5th grade.

Ode to my sweet memories

I appreciate everything that brought me here today,

All the sweet memories.

I would like to go back to 5th grade,

I’m not going to rewrite something,

But to review something.

They are my friends,

Behind the camera are my parent and sister,

This is my shooting form when I was in fifth grade,

I told my sister to record myself,

But she recorded the basket.

This is when I’m on a vacation,

There were no worries,

That is the true smile from my heart,

These are my sweet memories,

My sweet memories,

All of them are so lovely.

Sick: Sick is a poem which shows stereotypes of children, it shows that children don’t like school and they lie to adults in order to get out of going to school, the poem “Sick” is a type of list poem, list poem is like the author give you a list of things after the introduction, such as “I will do this…I will do that..” I wrote a poem called “Tomorrow” It’s also a list poem, listing what “I” will do tomorow, the poem shows laziness and how we don’t want to get to work.

List poem Tomorrow

Yesterday you said tomorrow,

Tomorrow I will do this, I will do that,

I will clean my house,

I will start my homework,

I will do basketball drills,

I will prepare for my exams and test,

I will do all the science homework and some math,

And I will just wait for tomorrow today, Its okay,

I still have plenty of time,

Anyways, I’m going back to sleep.

Lunchrooms: For the last poem, we annotated “The Lunch Room”, it is a poem with two voices, which means there will be two speakers at one time, the poem “The Lunch Room” shows a lot of stereotypes toward teenagers, Me and Paul wrote a poem called “Same” the poem is telling the reader that everyone or every race is important, no one is special, everybody is the same, without someone, they are nothing, so everyone is important.

Same

I’m white, (Paul)

                                                                                               I’m black, (Anderson)

We are both colors, (Together)

Two important colors, (Together)

I’m hidden in brightness, (Paul)

And I’m hidden in darkness, (Anderson)

I brighten the brightness, (Paul)

I darken the brightness, (Anderson)

We are both colors, (Paul)

2 Important colors. (Anderson)

Bias and Media Unit Reflection

Bias and stereotype could make huge impacts on the readers, most readers would be affected based on how they view things, such as controversial topics, especially on new generations. However, in this unit, we learned how to detect bias from social media properly which is an important skill that protects us from being affected by media bias which improved my thinking skills based on IB learner profile, thinking, consider whether the content is biased by using bias detection techniques, There are few important skills I need keep for detecting bias effectively, such as find out the primary purpose of the content, then detect biases that are shown in the content based on the way it spreads messages to the audience.

We did some activities that improved our skills at detecting bias, in my opinion, one of the most effective action was probably Checkokology, it has 4 modules in which each module teaches us new skills, module one was pretty basic but it is useful, it teaches about filtering news information, such as detecting primary purpose, and which article is more newsworthy.etc, moving n to the second module, it teaches us civic freedoms, basically, there are five freedoms, which is Freedom of Speech, Freedom of the Press, Freedom to Assemble Peaceably and Freedom of Petition. In the third module, it teaches us about internet personalization and in the fourth module, we were tested if we were a fair journalist. These activities are short but helpful, the techniques from these lessons can be used in daily life for everyone, every age especially when technologies and internet are becoming more indispensable. we practiced detecting news articles and commercials the most, we improved as we practiced more, I see my improvements over this unit based on detecting news articles, at the beginning of the unit, I barely explain about my annotation in my work, I only label it, it was unorganized, no color coded. However, as we practice more, I learn more. so I think this activity was also really helpful, too. What I should improve on and practice more about is detecting bias from commercials or TV shows, it was harder than I thought, that’s is what I have to keep working on.

Activities:

  1. News & TV Bias
  2. Checkology Modules 1-4
  3. Annotation Bias In Media (Summative)
  4. Analysis Bias in Media (Summative)
  5. Product Bias In Media (Summative)

Detecting bias is a great technique that can be used on the internet, news articles or digital articles, advertisements.etc it can be used on everything that involved controversial topics, opinions, issues.etc. We don’t just roughly go through the content, we detect bias from the content, so today’s challenging information from social media, newspaper.etc would not affect us. Overall, this unit brings a huge impact on me, when I applied it to Taiwanese news articles, I realized how bias it is, I realized how many people are being affected by the media every day, every moment, before learning this, that biased news made me so emotional, I just felt the way they wanted me to feel, that’s always the purpose of being biased in news. Now, I would see if the news is biased or not because it’s actually fun to see if the news is biased, after detecting this, I would share my results with my parent, they also joined me, simply put, they can also detect bias now, this is the reason for why I think this unit taught me a lot and brought a huge impact on me.

The Impact Of Media Bias

This summative project shows how we did in overall this unit, which includes annotation, creating products, how to bring awareness to the public.etcIn this unit, we had learned about biases and stereotypes which occur everywhere, we learned how to detect bias from different types of media, annotate the content and see if they are biased, we have done several activities throughout this unit such as annotation, an essay that brings awareness.etc
Bias In Media: this document includes everything except annotation, it has analysis to annotations and how we should be aware of media bias.

News Articles Annotation:
Over this unit, we had done a lot of annotation activities, this pdf shows my both summative a projects, both articles are focusing on politics.

  1. North Korea pushing “vanity projects” as Olympics near, despite suffering in Kim Jon Un’s regime
  2. Pence tweets support for gay US Olympian who trashed him: ‘We are FOR YOU’ :

Print-Ad: moving on to the next section, image bias, we also annotated images in the project, the techniques used for detecting bias from images are similar. However, biases and stereotypes are mostly based on the camera angle and how it portraits the character in the image.

We were asked to creat an product which brings awarness to the public and letting them to be more aware of media bias, I made two products that brings awarness, the first drawing shows bias in media, and the second drawing shows stereotypes shown in media.
The Impact of Media Bias on individuals and society

My first drawing shows the impact of media bias on individuals and society, there are a lot of news organizations trying to be unbiased and reliable. However, I think the biggest issue is the primary purpose of a biased news or viral rumor is money, as the report is more interesting to the audience, the trends and search frequency increases on the internet which makes a lot of money for the news organization. In my drawing, it shows the cameraman is told to choose a reporter who actually produces a fake topic about Republicans instead of the truth of Republicans, from the live stream, it shows that the reporter actually looks like an expert but behind the scene, he is actually wearing an underpants, this shows he disrespects to his job and he is actually not an expert as we see on the TV, the cameraman adjust the camera to the fake expert instead of focusing on the real political expert because the fake expert produces search frequncy on internet. However, the fact doesn’t really grab attention. It also shows the man is asking for money as he is hidden by the camera, it shows how social media keeps the truth as a secret. Most importantly, when people think what they see is true, they would spread the news to people around them, this is why the views of “ONN” live stream is very high, most people would spread the message through social media, it causes extra impressions to people (could be strangers) who haven’t seen this, so more people would see this fake news as a “fact” to something especially when someone spreads this message with adding more personal opinions into this news as he/she shares this.

As a citizen living in Taiwan, after learning the lessons of detecting bias, I realized the danger of social media hidden in Taiwan’s internet, It has a big difference to CNN, BBC. etc these more reliable news sources, the difference is that it is extremely biased, they add their opinions to the news directly, especially to China, North Korea. etc countries that they fight against with, this is a big issue to everyone living in Taiwan, it would really change our opinions to something. I hope this brings awareness of media bias to everyone, especially us, Taiwanese because media of Taiwan is not that reliable than we thought.

Second Drawing:

My second drawing shows stereotypes occur in media and daily life. The title of my drawing is black and white, it represents old-thinking, these 4 doodle characters are the main focus of this drawing, it shows that the boy likes pink and he likes boys instead of girls. However, his parent and people around him think that’s not what a man does and the definition of love is a man and a woman. In my drawing, it also shows stereotypes toward gender, pink is for girls and blue is for boys, boys play guitars and girls play violins, boys wear simple shirts and girls wear dresses, men go to work and women take care of the family and would like to shop. The heart located at the border shows the definition of love is only a man and a woman.

These stereotypes are ironic, representing how most people and the society view things. they stereotyped everything, this drawing is an example of gender. on social media, stereotypes occur everywhere, this impact how people view things, they could become biased, too. social media makes huge impacts on the society, either good ways or bad ways, and the stereotypes of social media is definitely impacting the society in a really bad way, people should break the stereotypes and makes the society becomes more open-minded instead of spreading stereotypes.

2017-2018 Unit Reflection

On November,27th,2017, We completed Language and literature unit 2, novel study, through this unit, we explored about novels, Equity and Equality, Equity and Equality are completely different things, Equity is changing level or condition based on their abilities. For Example, due to their lesser abilities or conditions, such as not enough height to watch a soccer game, then they can stand on a higher platform in order to be able to watch the game. However, equality is that everyone stands on the same level stage.

Through this unit, we completed several activities and projects in order to get better at understanding, analyze, and summarize stories, Here’s what we’ve completed:

The book I was reading was Uprising by Margaret, Peterson. Haddix, “Uprising” focuses on women’s rights and justice for female workers/lower classes, through BookSnaps activities, discussions, and TIEAs, I improved at understanding and analyze the story, I learned a better way to analyze stories, which is TIEA, in which “T” means topic sentence, “I” means introduction evidence, E means evidence and A means Analysis. using TIEA helps to organize what we learned and what does the author what to represent about. Character TIEA helps us to organize characters in the story, transformation, mood.etc, for example, in my story, Bella, an immigrant from Italy, transformed from a fearful girl to a brave young woman who overcame all the fears. I couldn’t get used to TIEAs. However, after few practices, I became better at organizing stories using TIEA.

We’ve done three discussions for Uprising, the purpose of this is to help us get better at analyzing stories, the way I analyze this book was to make a document and keep track of important parts in the story, quotes that are worth quoting.etc, overall, It actually helped me a lot. Over the last discussion, I felt like I should have discussed more with my groupmates. After the final discussion, we started doing “Sketchnoting” for our books. simply put, the book was talking about three young women who tried to abolish sexism and racism.  I think sketchnoting is a good and creative way to analyze a story, it suppose to be more understandable, I really enjoyed Sketchnoting.

For the final summative, we did Media PSA (AKA Public Service Advertising) my research topic was CHILD LABOR, the reason for why it was chosen as my topic is due to the book “Uprising”, Uprising talks about teens around 16 work in factory, still many countries need to abolish child labor, worldwide 218 child laborers are in employment, which is a big issue in education. because most of them are early school leavers, early school leavers cannot be educated, which would cause them having a hard time to find a job, and their children cannot be educated either due to the economic issue. I did a video using PowToon for the final project, I think making videos is a good way to spread concepts, It is easily spread on social media, I got 115 likes and 66 retweets in 2 days, I think video making helps us learn more about our chosen topics, because if we want to make a PSA video, of course, we needed detailed research results, through making video, we could also learn many new things that we didn’t know previously.

Overall, I think this Unit helped me a lot in analyzing, understanding, and organizing stories, we had done so many activities that did improve our skills, becoming more skillful based on novel study.

Reflection: I did well on providing examples and evidence, because my evidence does support my topic sentence, I think i also did well Topic sentence, it provides substantial identification and explanation of the content, context, language, structure, technique, and style, However, it is missing the connection between concept and the story where I have to improve on.

What I need to improve on is based on Analysis, because I added new evidence into my analysis which was unnecessary, also the sentence was too long and difficult to understand.
